Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: ((SEE POSTED RATES))   Discount shipping on multiple RECORDS in same order. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                                              CANADA - TRANS WORLD - TW 6700

PLENTY RARE ...1967 CANADIAN first press with entirely different cover from the USA pressing ... rarely available it commands three $$$ figure costs in collectors circles 'round the globe ... Anyway, these Canadian hipsters were one of the best in their scene, and stood tall among such CDN legends as The Ugly Ducklings & The Hauted....

The Rabble were five longhair lads from Pointe Claire on Montreal's west island who played a nominally cool, oddly eccentric alternative to the Haunted's straight-on garage/blues rock. Their first album is a psychedelic curio sadly languishing in oblivion, even as scads of American and international crud is scraped from the bottom of the dustbin of sixties psychedelia. What gives?

The band were formed in 1966 by leader/guitarist Mike Harris and did the requisite club and bar slog across Montreal island, eventually playing before 4,000 people at the Queen's Park love-in in Toronto on May 22, 1967. But unlike other bands of the era, who were trying to establish rock as a serious medium (as evinced no doubt by the emergence of rock criticism at about the same time), the Rabble were more eccentric, stippling their music with wit, sarcasm and whimsy.

The first Rabble single, a psychedelic rocker I’m Alaboundy Bam, got little chart action. Their single, the follow-up "Golden Girl," was a slice of catchy cool-pop-perfection number that was a different story. Golden Girl was a highlight on the Montreal airwaves during the technicolour summer of 1967. They won over a restless audience at the Paul Sauvé Arena when headliners Cream didn't show, walking off the stage triumphantly – in matching underwear. Their music, at its best, crossed Beatlesque hooks with the no-barriers attack of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention
‘‘That thing just started popping,’’ group member John Pimm said. ‘‘We started winning all these new music battles (on the radio) – phone-in things,’’ The Rabble seemed unstoppable. But beyond the groovy-hooks sound, they delivered shock value with musical anarchy and experimentation, too – particularly in songs like the Zappa-esque Black Potato, the Eastern-flavoured drama of Rising of the Sun and the sheer free-for-all madness of The Energy Ritual, Harris’s 11-minute album-closing suite.   The Rabble found its original release on the Canadian Trans-World label in 1967, but after a surprise substitution for Cream in 1968 in Montreal in front of 5,000 fans, the group soon nabbed the attention of U.S. label Roulette, who subsequently released this record south of the border.

Elsewhere, however, the Rabble fly their freak flag in full colours. 'Black Potato', for instance, is a tribal paean, replete with goofy jungle-like chants, to the humble spud, the "almighty black potato". 'The Crushing Hand of Mother' mixes odd time changes with social commentary and the Zappa-esque prescience of "your mother's got a hold on you, yeah / controls all the things that you do, yeah" before snapping into a staccato guitar riff and then back to its languid lament. And then there is the patently absurd 'Can I Squeeze', which belts out some of the nimblest guitar rhythms before popping the gross-out question of the century, "Can I squeeze your boil? / Can I crunch it, munch it, squeeze it, eat it?"
The Rabble jams it up at times with heavy blues sludge considered the happening sound (ala Cream) at the time, which adds to this overlooked charmer of a platter that should have been reissued a long time ago.

CONDITION: The COVER: THICK old '60s type cardboard cover...the front is very square & flat with only a touch of shelf wear, remains a strong VG++ while the back is the same but has a name in ink (see photo #2)...get past that and it's pretty solid all over... having NO split seams, no bends, no writing ...

The vinyl: all glossy across both sides, rated VG with numerous stray hairlines, nothing strong, so played really well in VG++ levels - having only minimum surface here or there ...definitely enjoyable ...and considering the severe rarity, a collection keeper until with a little luck a better copy comes along... just keep your fingers crossed, but don't hold your breath!  It does have clean TRANS-WORLD labels

A GREAT ADDITION TO ANYONE'S COLLECTION !
