UPDATE: Good news! The buyer who tried to mar our reputation, as well as others, has now been removed from the eBay community. It remains to be seen whether his so-called friends will continue his dirty work, but as of now, we are elated to report that his other two eBay IDs are also suspended. Thank you to the many sellers and customers who offered their support, as that helped tremendously during our efforts to get the job done. Now on to more pleasant things...
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. UK - PYE RECORDS - NPL 18181 (MONO)
CLEAN! Original 1966 first BRITISH pressing witgh "FLIPBACK" cover ...
In glorious MONO which reflects the big bold production as well as containing different (mono) song mixes from the stereo issue.
Due to the contractual dispute between Pye Records and Epic Records, Donovan's releases were held back in the United Kingdom throughout 1966 and early 1967. During this time, Donovan released Sunshine Superman and Mellow Yellow in the United States. To catch up to the Epic Records schedule in America, Pye Records compiled a cross-section of both albums and titled it Sunshine Superman.
The sleeve cover, a design by Donovan's friends Mick Taylor and Sheena McCall, was the original cover for the first release of Sunshine Superman in the US but PYE Records didn't want a drawing but a photo, so they used a photo by Barry Feinstein, surrounded by an artwork of Dick Smith, whom Donovan didn't even know.
· Three King Fishers is listed as Three Kingfishers.
Donovan's Sunshine Superman indeed appeared in two different versions, one in America and another -- slightly later owing to the need of the artist to disentangle himself from his contract with Pye Records -- in England. The British copy included the breezy folk number "The Observation," the elegantly languid "Writer in the Sun" (which ended up on Mellow Yellow in America), the brooding, ornately arranged psychedelic mood piece "Hampstead Incident," and "Sand and Foam" (also issued onto Mellow Yellow in America), the latter a beautifully stripped-down acoustic number with about as high a haunt-count as any melody ever generated from Donovan's pen. And topping the album off, the smash psychedelic super-hipster "Sunshine Superman" a timeless track that still retains its groovy melody....one of the best Donovan tracks ever.
=================================================================================================================================================
SUNSHINE SUPERMAN contains some of the earliest examples of folk-psychedelia and represents a big step forward for Donovan. With this album he moves away from the gentle acoustic folk music of his earlier records and towards a more imaginative sound, introducing sitars, harpsichords, tablas and chamber quartets. One of the best & favorite Donovan albums...As well as the title track "Sunshine Superman" which was a big hit single for Donovan, there are some other songs on this album that are equally good. The heavy, menacing "Season Of The Witch" and the bouncy, upbeat "The Trip" are our two favorite tracks and in fact many would rate them both among Donovan's best work. "Guinevere" is an almost dirge-like medieval song but it actually works and sounds great, while the closing track "Celeste" is an absolutely gorgeous ballad. Then there's the eastern-influenced "Three King Fishers" and the epic poem "Legend of a Girl Child Linda" which has some wonderful fairytale imagery, and at almost seven minutes ... Donovan wrote Sunshine Superman before the Beatles even thought about recording such music, Micky Most the producer told Donovan not to play the track for Paul McCartney, but he did, because they were friends, and there soon after you saw "Revolver" released....
