Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. RARE AND SOUGHT advance release 1968 WHITE LABEL PROMO of the first and best Doug Dillard and Gene Clark album ... they did what the Buritto Brothers "Sin City" album did - and went right over everyone's head at the time....
In 1965 Missouri-born Gene Clark was riding the crest of unprecedented success and adulation as a member of the Byrds. Anointed as America’s answer to the Beatles, the Byrds topped the charts with folk-rock anthems like “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Turn! Turn! Turn!” and “Eight Miles High.” Gene was front and center as tambourine player, singer and principal songwriter for the group. But in early 1966 he flew the Byrds’ coop. A gifted songwriter, expectations ran high for a stellar solo career, but those hopes were dashed when his debut solo album and single both failed to chart. Dropped by Columbia Records the following year, Gene’s career remained in limbo until teaming up with banjo player extraordinaire Doug Dillard. What emerged from a series of informal jam sessions in and around Laurel Canyon was a loose-knit group of pickers seeking to break bluegrass music out of its traditional confines and redefine it in a contemporary country-rock context. The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark is a groundbreaking album that helped define country-rock and set the template not only for that genre but the entire alternative rural rock movements of the ’70s. Together with future Eagle Bernie Leadon, who co-wrote “Train Leaves Here This Morning” with Gene (featured both on the Fantastic Expedition album and later on the Eagles’ debut release), the Dillard & Clark merger represents a high-water mark in Gene Clark’s impressive canon of recordings and one of the most satisfying periods in his often troubled career. The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark ranks among a handful of seminal 1960s rural-rock experiments. “I think we made our mark in country rock,” muses Doug Dillard. “We didn’t make the charts but we sure influenced a lot of people.” The album opener, the melancholy Clark stunner “Out on the Side,” fades in midway through an organ note like the listener’s peeping into an open door. Instead of the decisive blast of say, “Like a Rolling Stone,” Clark and Dillard want to ease you in to this kinda-new, mostly-old type of music they’re digging. Thanks to Dillard’s banjo and fiddle, Fantastic Expedition boasts a stronger bluegrass influence than 1968’s other country-rock milestone, the Byrds’ Sweetheart of the Rodeo; where Clark’s erstwhile bandmates cover Merle Haggard, his new duo play a Lester Flatt stomp-up. The poppier elements reveal themselves subtly. “The Radio Song,” for instance, accents its melody with an electric harpsichord. This blatantly ’60s instrument dates the song but still sounds great, making Dillard & Clark seem less poseurs than innovators doing what made sense at any particular moment. Similarly, the Clark-Leadon song “In the Plan” has too fancy a structure and melody to seem a straight-up roots song. Just as Dillard made raga tempos work on his Banjo Album, his banjo on this song complements Clark’s songwriting just as well as Jim McGuinn’s twelve-string did a few years prior. 1.
