PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. RARE 1970 PRIVATE PRESS HIPPIE UNDERGROUND ROCK CREW
OWEN - B.
\ USA - PRIVATE PRESS (MUS-I-COL) 101210
Long rare notible Original Private label 1970 first pressing by an underground hippie band strangely named "Owen B" ...here's more about that:
An obscure Columbus, Ohio band named Owen-B. made some 45's and only this one Lp... that album delivers little bit of classic rock, a few cuts that have a West Coast CSN&Y feel. Some psychedelic elements and a definite raw feel, garage-psych direction. Owen-B (named after the band's black and orange 1954 Mercury), has an interesting, if rather convoluted background ... Born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio singer/guitarist Terry Van Auker and multi-instrumentalist Tom Zinser got their starts playing in a number of local bands, including Tommy Z and The Sleepers. By 1967 the two were playing in an outfit known as Wildlife. Popular on the local club scene, an audition for Columbia went well, but the company's interest was contingent on the group agreeing to dump then lead singer Lou Basso. Reluctantly the rest of the band agreed to the personnel change, subsequently recording a number of demos for the label. The partnership was brief, resulting in the release of one instantly obscure single: 'Time Will Tell' b/w 'Hard Hard Year' (Columbia catalog number 4-44369) Back on the club circuit, 1969 saw another personnel change with former Crazy Elephant/Music Explosion drummer Bob Tousignant (aka Bob Avery) signing on. Another name change followed, with Owen-B emerging. Unable to interest another major label in their material, the group elected to go the self-issued route. Consequently 1970's cleverly-titled "Owen-B" was released on their own Ohio-based Mus-i-col label. Self-produced, anyone expecting to hear another set of mid-1960s blue-eyed soul/garage was probably somewhat disappointed by the album. Similarly anyone buying into dealer hype claiming this was a set of mind melting psych was gonna be disappointed. Those comments aren't meant to be taken as criticisms since the collection's quite accesible and somewhat of a lost classic. Featuring ten band-penned originals, musically the set bounced all over the spectrum, including stabs at stoner West Coast styled folk ('All We Are Asking'), poprock ('My Friends'), rural-rock ('Weekend'), and conventional hard rock ('Share'). Normally something as diverse wouldn't hold up particularly well, but when packaged with killer melodies, great harmony vocals, some first-rate guitar (courtesy of Terry Van Auker ) and a real sense of fun and enjoyment you ended up with one of the rare exceptions to the rule. Personal favorites include 'Leavin' It All Up To You' and 'Out On My Own' (which add a bit of progressive complexity to the mix) and ''. Easy to see why folks hype the album, even if it isn't for the right reasons. Shame they didn't record a follow up set... CONDITION: The Cover: Thick old style private press cover is in collection worthy shape, VG+(+) means down graded only because of having some tape removal residue that can be removed (upgrading the cover) with a little patience in scraping off the tape removal residue - and having just very slight shelf wear that shouldn't bother most collectors...this is a rare Lp that is no longer around as it once sorta was back in the '80s & '90s ...with copies dried up and in private collections, don't hold your breath waiting for the next copy to turn up. No split seams, no bends, no writing ...
The Vinyl: All glossy over both sides, visually clean "EX" (excellent) and play graded with no audio problems... both private custom pressed labels are clean
