Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. ADVANCED RELEASE PROMOTIONAL
THIS PRE-RELEASE FIRST PRINTING IS COMPLETE:
WITH DOUBLE SIDED TURNTABLE MAT PHOTO INSERT!
Original 1970 first pressing of the famous 3rd and final MANDRAKE MEMORIAL album, highly regarded as their best works ... we don't often list this record, while it's rare and highly collectible the pressing is more often than not 'low-fi' ... here a an exception, a great survivor of an otherwise very fragile pressing....
The sought-after collectible 48 years old original, in thick gatefold , including its trippy psych-art design ... this copy complete with the eye-popping (double sided) photo insert that can be placed on your turntable platter and serve as a wild platter mat!
Along with the Nazz, this was one of Philadelphia's top bands throughout the late 60's. Prior to Puzzle, they released two good rock albums that had a vague Doors influence, mixing keyboards with guitar oriented psychedelia. Puzzle, released in 1969, is an extremely challenging album that is not recommended to those who are into song oriented pop. It's also a very progressive album that mixes classical/avant garde elements into a dreamy soundscape.
The album is really a mood piece, with plenty of strange moments including one track devoted to a choir of children praying while Whisper Play has, you guessed it, whispers amongst a classical backdrop. Randy Monaco croons throughout the album and there is the occasional guitar freakout, one heard at the end of the 9 minute instrumental Bucket of Air. The reoccuring theme, Just a Blur is a nice, short trippy piece of acoustic music that hints at a concept.
For the era, the Puzzle album is somewhat long, clocking in at around 50 minutes. The real meat of the album lies within the songs. Earthfriend and Hiding are so ambient and so full of great sound effects that they predate a style of psychedelia that Spacemen 3 pioneered throughout the late 80's. Ocean's Daughter is another great, menacing song, being a trippy psychedelic ballad with studio trickery and light arrangements. The song characterizes the album itself: confused, dark and unsettling on one hand but alluring and full of beauty on the other. Even the album cover art is really weird and demented, featuring a well known painting with chrome plated maggots inching their way up an endless flight of stairs.
While not for everyone, Puzzle shrouds itself in a velvet mystery. It's a totally unique experience within the world of pyschedelia that sounds completely unfamilar

CONDITION: The cover: rated a clean M- has a perfect circle promo hole at top right, PROMOTIONAL text imprint on back top left corner .... The gatefold cover is in highly collectible TOP shape after 48 years. The graphics are all bright and original solid colors = no split seams, no bends, no writing anywhere
The vinyl: rated M- ...normally this is a notoriously fragile, lo-fi pressing by Poppy Records and most copies have surface noise to various degrees (even on mint copies)... here an exception that retains excellent audio upon our play-grade test. It's a GREAT creative/adventurous album, we don't often list it due to pressing quality ...The POPPY labels are both clean....a rare, interesting Lp ...
