We have a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 2/3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers.
We mail all paid orders out once a week on Fridays/Saturdays. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule to Monday. We strive to keep our shipping and handling costs as close to actual charges as reasonable. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. Please be aware we have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.

Original 1971 first pressing vinyl on the small POPPY Records label out of Philadelphia ...a nice clean original ***STILL IN THE FACTORY SHRINK WRAPPER

Townes' quiet, unassuming voice and guitar come across like a fresh prairie breeze...Shot through with cracked-voice melancholy on the aching 'Come Tomorrow' and wittily sardonic on the bluesy 'Brand New Companion'...The soul-shattering darker songs are contrasted more than usual here by some light-hearted country/bluesy tunes like the traditional "FFV," the Hank Williams-styled title tune and the good-humored honky tonker "Turnstyled, Junkpiled." Van Zandt saves the harder stuff for later. The album closes with a trio of uncompromisingly bleak masterpieces. "Where I Lead Me" is probably his first recorded "rock" tune, with Van Zandt surveying the grievous situation of the hapless folks around him as well as himself, over an effective, driving beat. "Rake," written in classic folk ballad form with elegant poetic language, chronicles the tragic decline of a former ladies' man over minor-key acoustic strumming and haunting string section. The album closes with one of Van Zandt's best tunes, the anti-anthem to existential-tinged depression "Nothin'." Van Zandt was a strange fish; one of those artists who was critically lauded but who garnered little commercial appeal – even during the early seventies, considered to be his most artistic period. Born into a wealthy oil family, Van Zandt was diagnosed as manic depressive during his teenage years and, throughout his life, fought a constant battle against drug addiction and alcoholism. Van Zandt's personality made him the perfect tragic, tortured figure – and his music reflects that.The album opens with the railroad disaster tale of the "FFV", standing for Flying Fast Virginian. There is a long tradition of railway songs in the country oeuvre and by performing the track Van Zandt is aligning himself with the likes of Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff and Hank Williams. He certainly deserves to be mentioned in the same breath but there's something effete about Van Zandt. In some respects he's the equivalent of a consumptive romantic poet.
There are a number of strong songs on Delta Momma Blues ("Brand New Companion", "Turnstyled, Junkpiled", "Nothin'") and one that stands among Van Zandt's best ("Tower Song") but the lack of any variation and the dour vocal delivery make Delta Momma Blues a demanding listen. There's no doubting the man was an immense, if damaged, talent, even if he's too unpredictable to ever be listed among the worlds favourite singer-songwriters. However, his individual songs are worthy enough to be mentioned in the same breath as the best in the genre. Not recommended to impressionable depressives.

CONDITION: The cover: Still in the original factory shrink wrapper ...there is a light crease at top right corner, so even though in the shrink wrapper and the cover is mint underneath, will grade "EX" (excellent) ...no split seams, no writing. Highly collectible, of course...
The vinyl: all glossy "EX" (excellent) plays delightful....with no more than a minor scuffs from handling; sliding record in & out ...
