Description

This is a nice copy of a hard to find single by Ali Hassan: "Malaguena" b/w "Chop Sticks" (Philles 103). Released in 1961. Produced by Lester Sill. This was one of several singles that created tension between Lester Sill and his partner, Phil Spector. Whereas Spector was cranking out mega hits for the label, such as "There's No Other (Like My Baby)" and "Uptown," Lester Sill released novelty numbers like "Lt. Colonel Bogey's Parade" and "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" which, from Spector's perspective, was damaging the label's reputation.

This record is in strong VG+ to EX condition. Some very minor label wear, but no writing, stickers, or tears. Vinyl has high gloss, and a few very light paper scuffs.

There is a light stamp on the "Malaguena" side (see photo). The letters "NR" which are commonly found on Philles labels. "NR" stands for "non-returnable," which means the supplier was sending them to record stores as remainder or overstock copies and could not be returned.
