notes: SOUL ECSTASY...1972...The Bronx...The Movement, a radical faction of the Black Panthers decide to get even with The Man. The plan...kidnap the sons and daughters of prominent members of society. Send the daughters to Hong Kong to act as sex slaves. The sons go to Southeast Asia to cultivate the poppy fields for the heroin trade.
SOUL ECSTASY, a low-budget blaxploitation film saw a limited release in early 1972. Never the less it ignited much controversy in the mid-West where it was originally screened. Effectively banned by theater owners for its explosive subject matter it practically disappeared from history. Middle-America was not ready for it's message and it played on too many fears of the Establishment. The brilliant soundtrack performed by The Inner Thumb, an unknown group of studio musicians, was never released until now. From the Curtis Mayfield styling of the main title song to the sitar funk of "Citroens 'n Sitars" Soul Ecstasy mixes classic blaxploitation genre sounds but with a decidedly Asian twist.
SOUL ECSTASY's music will appeal to fans of soundtrack reissues like "Vampyros Lesbos" and "Bombay The Hard Way".
