Description
This is a rare single by Tim Curry: "Baby Love" b/w "Just Fourteen" (Ode 66117). Released in the UK in 1976. This mega-rare stock copy single is Curry's debut as a solo artist and was meant to be part of a much larger project with producer Lou Adler. This single eventually ended up on the now out-of-print "Songs from the Vault" compilation, a collection of Rocky Horror Picture Show related songs on Rhino Records.
It is pointed out by serious and informed Beach Boys collectors that the background chorus of "Just Fourteen" features the unmistakable vocals of Brian Wilson, who is backed up by Spring, aka American Spring, which is two-thirds of the girl group The Honeys (Marilyn Wilson, Diane Rovell, but no Ginger Blake). They have some pretty clever lines about a child superstar who is "nice to her driver" because she always asks him if he's had his supper yet. Brian's voice really stands out on lines like "So please" and "to discover..." This is a funky seventies rocker written by John Phillips (leader of the Mamas and the Papas) and features great lead vocals by Tim Curry (who gives his own, unique Frankenfurter-y delivery). The A side is a nice cover of the classic song by The Supremes.
Very few stock copies exist (mono/stereo promo copies, without "Just Fourteen" on the flip, are more common). This copy is in VG+ condition. Labels are nice and clean, just very minor wear. Vinyl has high gloss, just a few light scuffs. Plays great.
