Description

RARE CLASSIC VINYL

BEETHOVEN ‘Emperor’ Concerto

1959 DECCA SXL 2179

A rare chance to buy this pressing of an early Decca original stereo classic

This is the Number 5 Concerto in E flat with Wilhelm Backhaus and the Vienna Philharmonic Orch. Conducted by Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt. Originally issued in 1959

SLEEVE CONDITION

The front cover has slight yellow ghosting down the left hand edge (from sunlight and a few  (7) small  creases in the laminate over the portrait of Beethoven on the front. These are impossible to  show on the photograph here. The Laminate is unchipped and runs over to the back with the usual yellow shrinkage patina where it ends on the back. The sleeve has the correct inner flaps and was made by Robert Stace. There are no tears no stains, dents or delamination. The spine is dead-straight.

INNER SLEEVE DETAILS

The original blue-on-white FFSS DECCA printed inner bag with unspoiled poly liner. The inner bag bears all the normal creases common to this era and a tiny tear at the bottom of one side. Catalogue number for this inner sleeve is M13 3 09 which is correct for the original issue

LABEL DETAILS

This bears the silver-on-black unboxed Decca logo label with the Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound banner beneath

DISC CONDITION

This disc has been played. It is not mint.

You can see small spindle rub marks near the centre hole that betrays this fact.

There are no visible scratches on the playing surface and no scuffs or fingerprints.

Others may class this, then, as Mint, I would just say that it will be a noise-free listen in truly excellent condition.

The disc is totally flat.

PROVENANCE

Formerly the property of my late father who possessed a Pye 1005 Achiphon stereo with a feather-weight pickup, this record has been lovingly stored and treated to careful play ever since he bought it new in London in 1961

PACKING DETAILS

I have posted out many LP records with no complaints yet (and a few compliments!) I know what it is like to get a disappointingly packaged rarity. The Disc in the inner bag is removed from the sleeve before packing and paper inter-liners separate the two items. The record is shipped in a stout card shipping container: NOT in a standard LP envelope or bubble-wrapped jiffy. I take great pains to make sure that even the strongest postman cannot bend the item. (so far)

POSTAGE DETAILS

See the postage costs details attached. Contact me direct if you  would like to pay extra for recorded delivery etc. Postage outside the UK must be negotiated with me separately and subsequent posting will be ‘at cost’ to the buyer (no mark-up). I am happy to discuss.
