Description
Fabulous copy of the very rare Columbia stereo issue of Mendelssohn's Symphony No.3 in A Minor, op.56 ('Scotch') and Overture ' The Hebrides' (Fingal's Cave), Op.26, Otto Klemperer conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra, catalogue no. SAX 2342 on the blue and silver label.
Side 1: Band 1: Overture "The Hebrides", Band 2: Symphony No.3 in A Minor ("Scotch") First Movement: Andante con moto - Allegro un poco agitato - Assai animato - Andante come prima
Side 2: Second Movement: Vivace non troppo, Third Movement: Adagio, Fourth Movement: Allegro vivacissimo - Allegro maestoso assai
The sleeve is in EX condition, if not slightly better. There are a couple of very minor corner scuffs and 4 or five equally minor spine creases, plus a little laminate flaw on the front opening side (manufacturing flaw, I would guess from its appearance). An exemplary sleeve for its age.
Vinyl is also EX condition; labels are extremely clear and bright, with very little evidence of spindle wear and a clear, raised tax code (WT) on side 2. There is a light skating mark across band 1 and half of band 2 on side 1, and a small 1.5cm mark at the beginning of side 2, but these do not detract from the excellent playing quality of this very rare record.
All in all, a fantastic opportunity to bid on what is becoming an increasingly hard to find Columbia blue/silver label Stereo LP.
