Description
This is a listing for a very rare double LP released in 1972 as a special promotion by CBS Records (#A2S 33 AS 34 and A2S 33 AS 35). The double LP is a result of a 16-track recording of a concert performed March 25, 1972 that was done in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System's convention in New York City. CBS decided to host a promotional, press party for 400 college radio programmers and disc jockeys, and this album is a result of what came down. Side 1 introduces David Bromberg as a new Columbia artist while Sides 2, 3, and 4 feature the Kenny Loggins Band with Jim Messina. A letter from CBS Records signed by a CBS official (See image below) accompanies this album. The letter states that the album will not be released commercially and that it contains some previously unreleased material by both groups. David Bromberg tracks include Hard Workin' John, Tennessee Waltz, Mr. Bojangles, and Sugar In The Gourd. Kenny Loggins tracks include Danny's Song, Lady Of My Home, House At Pooh Corner, Long Tail Cat, Listen To A Country Song, Trilogy: Lovin' Me; To Make A Woman Feel Wanted; Peace Of Mind, Your Mama Can't Dance, Vahevalla, and Back To Georgia. What is most striking and noteworthy about this release is that it bears the Columbia two-eye label design that was discontinued in 1970! The only two-eye Columbia's I have seen that were issued after 1970 have been Canadian releases. Columbia in Canada delayed introduction of the 70's print/logo perimeter design for a couple of years beyond its introduction in the U.S. The labels used for this release also do not state "360 sound" as did those from the late-60's. The images which are all depicted below more closely resemble Columbia's two-eye design from the early-60's when the design replaced Columbia's six-eye. In fact, new label designs for many American labels were introduced much later in Canada than in the U.S. starting with the 1950's. These labels in particular specifically state "1972 CBS, Inc." on them despite that they are of the two-eye design! Side 1 has a few light marks, and Side 4 has a few marks that are more pronounced. None of these marks can be felt. Accordingly, the records get a visual grade of VG+ to near mint depending on the side being graded. The records play grade VG++ with only a few scattered light clicks here and there. There is no noise otherwise; so, the VG++ grade is attributable to these clicks. Both records have virtually all their original luster. The Side 1 label has a light smudge or stain that appears to be from grease (See image below). The texture of the label, though, has not been altered. The LP's come in a generic foldover white cover with no die cut holes. There are a couple of slight splits at the center of the inside gatefold and along both lower right edges. The splits range from one-half inch to one inch in length. The CBS letter has a tape stain at the upper right center, and the bottom edge is slightly ruffled and torn. This is a very rare live double LP that will appeal to collectors of 70's Rock and records with labels having unusual or obscure label designs. Although only 400 guests were invited to the concert, it is unknown how many of the promo records were actually released. There could be more; there could be less. I'm not sure, but I do know that there could not have been many. The concert was recorded three weeks before Loggins & Messina's first Billboard-charted hit, Vahevala (Notice the different spelling on the LP label), debuted. Plus, they were both stars in their own right before they decided to record together. Since they needed little promotional effort and it was known initially that the album would not be released commercially, there would have been little need to distribute the promo. David Bromberg was already becoming quite well known with his eclectic musical background as well. PLEASE DON'T BE BLOWN AWAY BY MY ASKING PRICE. I have no idea what this record is worth, just a general idea of what I think records like this should be worth! If you make an offer, you never know. I may just accept it and say as the song and saying go, "Call Me Irresponsible!". This record was play graded on an audiophile system employing Basis Ovation, Graham Industries, Transfiguration, Sound Applications, and Jeff Rowland electronics.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOR BIDDERS WITHIN THE UNITED STATES: Satisfaction is guaranteed on a money back basis with postage BOTH ways. Domestic buyer assumes responsibility for $8.00 charge for insured (presumed to be for more than $50) media mail with a delivery confirmation. Insurance and delivery confirmations are required for all domestic shipments. Payments made with these charges subtracted will not be accepted. Only professional packaging materials are used for shipping, and all items are shipped securely and with filler pads; yet, you will not risk damage to the contents because the packaging is too difficult to undo. My packages are easy to open once you start the process, and you will not need a butcher knife or terrorist box cutter to do it with! Virtually all online payment services are available. Due to increases in fraudulent PayPal transactions and resultant chargebacks, items paid for through PayPal will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. I generally always ship on the date I receive cleared funds or within one day thereafter. Personal checks require a hold of ten business days for clearance. All domestic sales must be paid for within seven days of an auction's end. If you do not pay online, and your mail service as a sender is slow, don't bother bidding!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOR BIDDERS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES (PAYPAL PAYERS SEE ALSO SECTION BELOW): Uninsured Airmail Letter Post is used for international shipping due to its popularity. Rates are as follows: Canada $8.00; Mexico $10.00; Europe $15.00; Asia, Australia, Africa, and South America $16.00. Due to the high cost of related shipping, satisfaction is guaranteed on a money back basis exclusive of shipping costs. No guarantees can be made for safe delivery, or delivery at all, for that matter, for international shipments that are not sent by registered or insured mail. If you would like registered or insured mail, please e-mail me for rates. The charges stated for international transactions include the fee for a Certificate of Mailing, which is validated and canceled by the United States Postal Service and provides proof that I have mailed an article to you. Also included is a modest charge to cover the additional time and energy required for international transactions, such as correspondence, customs declarations, translations, etc. Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian are spoken. Shipping rates are not negotiable! I do not enjoy paying them any more than you do. Please consider when you bid that your shipping costs are part of your total purchase price. Surface mail outside the United States will not be considered. I do not want your record dragged along the ocean floor! Feedback on eBay can only be posted for 90 days. Transactions that involve surface mail have insufficient time during which problems can be resolved that might influence feedback either way. Cash (currency) is acceptable for international transactions but must be sent by registered mail unless otherwise mutually agreed upon. Virtually all online payment services are available. I generally always ship on the date I receive cleared funds or within one day thereafter. All international sales must be paid for within fourteen days of an auction's end. No exceptions!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOR ALL INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS PAYING WITH PAYPAL: All sales of $40 or more paid for through PayPal require the use of registered mail at an additional cost of $7.50. This is because if your item is lost in the mail you can under PayPal's Buyer Protection Program obtain a full refund from PayPal including shipping charges (less a $25 processing fee). However, this will result in a chargeback to me! PayPal states that the only way a seller can be protected against chargeback is if a shipping method is used that permits online tracking such as registered, insured, or express mail. The most practical and safest method to protect against loss in the mail is with registered mail. If your sale is for less than $40, you are not required to use registered mail. However, I disclaim all liability for loss in the mail, which means that if your record is lost, you cannot file a claim with PayPal. Please realize that I obtain certificates of mailing for all international shipments. The certificate of mailing proves that I have mailed an article to you. Although the contents are not described, if I were to send you anything other than your record, you would know it! An image of this certificate or the original certificate itself can always be furnished to you upon request. So, if your record is lost, you must bear the risk yourself of loss in the mail unless you purchase necessary protection at an additional cost. I must disclose this policy in order to avoid liability to PayPal myself. Realize that PayPal's Buyer Protection Program is an excellent means for insuring your record. However, you must pay for the additional cost of registered mail (or insured or express mail, or all three, if you prefer).-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SPECIAL RULES FOR WHO MAY USE PAYPAL: Those who are new to eBay (or who haven't used it in a long time) and those with private feedback may not be permitted to use PayPal. Unauthorized international PayPal transactions are charged back to sellers. Feedback is used to verify your purchasing history. You may have an excellent eBay feedback rating and demonstrated creditworthiness for PayPal purposes, but that doesn't mean that you are the one who is using those accounts! The issue is one of identity. It is totally possible that an eBay or PayPal account holder does not know what a vinyl record even looks like! Yet, the person using such account holder's identity may know! If your identity is stolen, it will be unlikely that the thief responsible will also be a collector of vinyl records. That person will likely purchase merchandise with your account that you are not accustomed to buying. I must see a pattern for purchasing records more than 60 days prior to an auction end. If your feedback is private, you may be able to provide me with a sufficient number of completed listing numbers for listings 60 to 90 days (Older listings may no longer be saved in eBay's database) or give me the user code names of sellers who by their name are obviously vinyl record sellers who have posted feedback for you at any time prior to 60 days before an auction end. You may also temporarily publish your feedback in order for me to review it and then change it back to private status after I have done so. This can all be done in a matter of a few minutes if we are both able to communicate by e-mail at the same time. THESE RULES ARE SO THAT I MAY GET PAID AND STAY PAID! Kindly accept my apologies for any inconvenience. Other sellers may not have such strict rules because they may be unaware of their exposure to PayPal chargebacks. If you think you may not qualify to use PayPal, kindly bid assuming that PayPal will not be possible and do not be offended if a request to use PayPal is not granted. BidPay, now with lower rates, or international money orders may also be used as means for payment.
