Description
Up for auction is a really rare 78 RPM record (SP). It's in pretty nice condition. This record comes up only occasionally and then almost only in the 45 RPM format. I have been unable to find any other examples of a 78 RPM either currently up for sale, or previously sold.
RAMA RECORDS RR-30 Artist: The Crows Released in 1954 One side: I Really, Really Love You (Davies-Norton-Goldner), Jump Other side: Miss You (Davies-Norton-Goldner), Ballad
The Crows were formed in 1951. They were discovered at a Wednesday night talent show at Harlem's Apollo Theater. They were the first group signed by, and the first group to record for, the newly formed Rama Records, owned by George Goldner. The band members included: Daniel (Sonny) Norton - Lead William (Bill) Davis - Baritone Harold Major - Tenor Mark Jackson - Tenor and Guitar Gerald Hamilton - Bass
The Crows' biggest hit was "Gee" which reached #2 on the R&B charts and # 14 on the pop charts. Some have claimed that this was the very first recorded rock and roll song. The record now being auction was recorded subsequently, in 1954. The group broke up in 1955.
