Description
1954 Super Rare 10" LP from Ella Mae Morse "Barrelhouse, Boogie & Blues" released on Capitol UK Cat. No. LC 6687. This gal was a sensation in the early 50's when her first release "Cow Cow Boogie" was a massive hit. She was just 17! It was also the Capitol label's first ever release. Ella went on to have many more huge hits, "Blacksmith Blues", "40 Cups Of Coffee" "T'Aint What You Do","smack Dab In The Middle", "Razzle Dazzle","Rock n Roll Wedding", "Seventeen" and many more.Of course we all know the Capitol story!
Every track, all 8 of them are sensational. She sounds much like Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker but has her own unique style as well. She does three numbers that Ruth Brown did too, "Daddy Daddy", "5-10-15 Hrs" and "Teardrops From My Eyes", which Ella does as an up tempo item, rather than as a ballad. Most of the tracks are up/mid tempo, but the one for me is a superb ballad "I Love You, Yes I Do". It's out of this world.
All the other tracks are excellent though and she has the R & B Orchestra of "Big Dave" and his orchestra, which I'm sure was Dave Cavanaugh, later to become the A & R man for Capitol. The record, despite very slight surface noise in parts, I would grade as EX. Cond. especially being 54 years old. Cover is VG+ Cond. as bit of sellotape round two sides and one or two creases.
Not only will you struggle to find a copy of this anywhere, you'd also have to find it in this condition. Book value is over a £100 Mint! An extremely rare item on it's own, but Ella Mae is a rare talent on her own too. Good Luck with your bids and thanks for your interest in this one.
