Description
Here is a vintage 78 RPM Edison record with the very rare storage / protective flip over box. I am selling this mainly for the box. VERY scarce and hard to find. The top of the box has a paste-down plate with artwork at the top in color by artist/illustrator Norman Price. I couldn't find this particular one (the artwork) listed online anywhere. Possibly unique to this box? Not sure. I put this in the artwork category for anyone who might collect his art. The record is " In Happy Moments / Massa's In De Cold Cold Ground " Edison 80018 ca. 1912. The first side is a baritone solo with orchestra and the second is mixed voices with orchestra. No singers/artists are listed. This is the thick Edison and is in fairly good condition. The "In Happy Moments" side has pressure cracks (surface only) from the rim onto the play area about one inch. They don't cause skips or hesitations but you can hear some ticks here. The other side is pretty good with one tiny spot at the beginning of play that can be felt. A few ticks here also. The rest of the record plays pretty well (for a 78) with some background noise. The voices come through pretty well. The record is still shiny with a few light spots/scuffs/ etc. The box is has a flip over top with a "Thomas A. Edison' Manufacturer sticker inside the top and it has two pieces of soft muslin type cloth for protection. The cloth has some yellowing and spotting. The box top is split on all four corners with some nicks/splits in the cloth on the opening edge and the corners. Some surface wear and spotting/discoloration on the back/bottom of the box. The paste-down plate has some yellowing and light spotting. Starting to lift a bit on the corners. There is a name written in pencil on the left "column". Faint stains on the edge. Worth the price for the box alone. Possibly unique to this record. Not sure. Also of interest to collectors of Norman Price's artwork. Buyer pays Priority shipping to be determined by your ZIP.
