Description
Elvis Presley, Blue Hawaii (1961?)
Queen Record ANL-624
According to Discogs, there are 283 known versions of the Blue Hawaii soundtrack. This is not one of them.
As far as I can tell, this is a previously undocumented Taiwanese 10" release that is distinct from the Hae-Shan / Haishan version of Blue Hawaii—obscure even the standards of obscurities.
This version was put out by Queen Record, a mysterious outfit from Taipei that, for unclear reasons, used a picture of Queen Elizabeth II as its logo. (Adding to the confusion, it appears to have been the same company as Whei Mei Record, which also produced 10" Elvis records.)
I haven't seen any pictures of Queen Record releases with covers, so it appears that they were only sold in generic company sleeves. I have to rely on Google Translate, but it doesn't appear that Elvis's name actually appears anywhere on the label. (Maybe someone can correct me on this.)
The sleeve of this record is in surprisingly decent shape and is still covered in what I can only presume is the original plastic wrapper, on which some unknown individual has written "Peggy" in marker, adding to the air of mystery.
How does it sound? I'll be perfectly honest: It's terrible. Lots of surface noise. In all likelihood, it probably always sounded terrible, given that this was not exactly an official release.
Side B has more conspicuous scratches than Side A, but I didn't notice any skips when I tested it.
