Description and significance:
This item is a wonderful example for those Moody Blues and indeed Justin Hayward fans and is of recordings of Justin Hayward PRE-MOODY BLUES! (Justin joined the Moody Blues in late summer 1966).
About the record:
In 1965, successful veteran rockabilly rocker (and sometime teen idol) Marty Wilde took a momentary diversion in his career when he took an interest in an 18-year-old Justin Hayward who responded to an advertisement for a guitarist. Marty soon took the promising young talent under his wing and together, along with Marty’s wife Joyce, formed The Wilde Three. The group was short-lived but released two singles together in 1965, one of which is offered here: “Since You’ve Gone / Just As Long.” Justin’s voice is clearly audible on both tracks, and the tunes themselves both nicely capture a young romantic innocence – you’ll want to play them!
To date, none of The Wilde Three recordings have become available on CD; hence these records have become highly sought after for not only Justin Hayward but Moody Blues fans alike. This item will be a wonderful addition to your collection!
Condition:
The record has been nicely cleaned and is very playable; it comes in at a very nice VG (according to Goldmine standards) with the center piece still fully intact.
Additional notes: the matrix numbers, XDR.35489 and XDR.35490, do in fact appear upside down on the labels of all issues of this record.
“Manston,” credited as the writer of the A and B side tunes, was a pseudonym which Marty Wilde used for his authorship during his tenure with The Wilde Three.
