RARE ~ LONG GONE 30+ years ago 2nd PRESS in beautiful laminated gatefold of the mighty 2nd WARHORSE LP, "RED SEA" - a top sought British (1972) "HEAVY PSYCH" collectible:
For the 2nd (1972) WARHORSE album, Peter Parks replaces original guitarist Ged Peck, and the comparisons to Ritchie Blackmore and Deep Purple remain - albeit hard & heavy in underground (progressive) rock overtones. This time out, the band chose a more heavy rock sound and with less Gillan-esque screeching from Ashley Holt. They still rock hard on "Back In Time" (with its long distortion fueled guitar solo) and the appropriately titled jammer "Mouthpiece". Recommended to fans of Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and progressive hard rock in general. Solid album that should be well received by those who enjoyed the first Warhorse and the old early 70's underground prog/hard rock scene of the U.K.
The title (Red Sea) rocks with tough organ from Wilson, Simper and drummer Mac Poole's firm groove, Peter Parks' sweet guitar harmonies and Ashley Holt's strained moaning. 'Back in Time' follows-up in stride, Holt's primal scream serving well and a reasonable guitar break from Parks culminating in a psych jam. The commercial 'Confident But Wrong' is typical but good Rhythm n' Blues with an organ interlude, the ballad 'Feeling Better' disappoints but soon enough comes 'Sibila', a classic early stoner rock with more loud guitars. 'Mouthpiece' redeems them with a fabulous display of each player's abilities.
