Description
Green Tree Boogie / Sundown Boogie - by Levi Jackson First released by SOLOMON KING as the flip side of his 'Say a prayer' single on Columbia (DB 8676) in April 1970, it was deleted very quickly. EMI released it again the following year with a name change to LEVI JACKSON. Not many new artistes whose singles are released in the summer get hits, and this was no exception. Its become very much sought after by Northern Soul fans.
This is a "White A on Green background" official DEMO from EMI. Release Date on it is 13.8.71, and I added my name and initials in biro at the time as can be seen on the label. Its in its original company sleeve, my shelf number is in the top LH corner. The B side is "Dont you be a sinner". The disc is as near mint as you can get, and has genuinely been played just the once, this week! The sleeve bears some scuffing from being moved along the shelves, but i beloieve there are huge stocks of old EMI groups sleeves to be had ? Valued at £100, but I'm a realist and have set a reserve far below that.
This Northern Soul rarity has sat on my shelves since summer 1971 when it arrived. As a radio DJ I got up to a hundred new releases every week and often had no time to even listen. Im afraid the name Levi Jackson meant nothing to me, so it didnt clear the first hurdle - but it DID become a Northern Soul favourite of many. Ive just played it for its first time, to see what its like! GREAT TRACK! . . but I don't get much chance to play this stuff these days and would rather see it go to a soul boy (or girl) who will enjoy spinning it.
