Little Willie John, Fever

This copy features the rare Nurse cover.

King Records 564, 1956, original black King label without the crown logo.

Original pressing with deep groove on both sides of label.

This is the rare original "nurse cover" version of this famous LP by Little Willie John, not the far more common second cover with the word "fever" printed in large multi-colored letters.

This is the original pressing with the "crownless" black King label with silver lettering in small font.

An incredibly rare and deservingly famous Rn'B record.

CONDITION

Play Grade Side 1: VG+ this side plays with very light background rush and faint occasional ticks which are evidence of light play wear and a pressing typical of King LPs of this era. There are a few light, faint non-repeating background ticks which do not impare the music. An excellent listening experience throughout.  Many would grade this side at M- Visual Grade Side 1: VG+/VG there are many light fine scratches and superficial scuffs.

Play Grade Side 2: VG+/VG this side plays with the same light background rush and faint occasional ticks as side 1. At spots during tracks 2, 3 and 4 there are light to moderate intermittent ticks which are noticeable but certainly do not challenge the music in any significant way; three moderate pops are heard at the very end of track 3. Not quite as nice as side 1, but again a very nice listening experience. Many would go ahead and grade this side at VG+.   Visual Grade   Side 2: VG+/VG there are many light fine scratches and superficial scuffs.

My grading is conservative and based on careful listening on a VPI turntable. Any wear described above is described accurately and realistically. This is a very good listening copy and will satisfy most careful collectors, but I do not recommend it to those serious audiophiles who are looking for flawless copy.

Labels: Nice clean and clear, with true color and solid bold print on both sides; there are light signs of spindle trails on both sides; the holes are clean and tight and show only light signs of wear. (See photos below.)

Jacket: VG+: a very fine jacket with bright, clean graphics, clear bright colors, and with a couple of minor problems: Front-- a bit of ring wear at top and left side of jacket and faint traces of ring wear at bottom of jacket (see detailed photos below); Edges--very light edge wear at spine and top seam (barely visible); light edge wear at bottom seam; 2 inch split at jacket opening at top and bottom (both splits are neat and clean, not ragged and soft (see detailed photos below)); jacket corners are still sharp and square, not bumped or rounded; Jacket Back-- light ring wear at top and bottom of jacket and in jacket center; a light small stain at left edge; and slight evidence of excess glue at top when the paste-on was applied to cardboard jacket (see detailed photos below).

Otherwise clean and problem-free: no deletion cuts, notches, punches; no shop wear, other ring wear, other edge wear, other split seams, no writing, stamps, stray marks or other wear).

About For the Records

I have been a record dealer for 23 years and an eBay member since 1999. I retired from listing items on eBay in 2003 because of my involvement in a retail store in Boulder, Colorado. Recently, the store was forced to close because the building was sold for demolition and redevelopment. I am now back on eBay offering high-quality items, carefully chosen and accurately described. Please bid with confidence.
