CHELSEA and USHER met in 1977. This marked the beginning of a close collaboration, influenced by the punk movement which lead them to produce several works.
They published 3 books, organised exhibitions and performances and started up music with the band "METAL RADIANT" (noise punk and Stooges’ spirit),
then with "COIT BERGMAN" (more electronic and influenced by Suicide). In 1981 they formed "NORMA LOY" (Alan Vega himself gave them the name).
NORMA LOY is an anagram of "Nom Royal" (Royal Name). The band was connected to the fanzine New Wave which set up a label, and launched it’s first EP called
"NORMA LOY", a 4 tracks record, very cold wave, one of the the first of it’s kind in France.NORMA LOY multiplyed there experiences on the side, leading to the
creation in 1984 of their own label, CPM, which produced a second EP distributed by New Rose: "PSYCHIC ALTERCATION" whose "pscychoanalytic rock"
gave the setting for later productions. CPM developed its own philosophy and centralised the different activities of the group (musical and non musical ones:
(photo)graphic ones, literature, video making, dance etc... and controls the artistic production (recordings, LP covers, song books...).
A particular emphasis was drawn on the concerts mixing music and slide projections.
A live audio tape called "PPHZ" was released, presenting unpublished titles from the band's early works.

NORMA LOYhas always been one of France's best post-punk bands. Since 1982 they rivalled against the dominance of Great-Britain in this genre.
They may not have gained the attention and reward many other bands recieved, but that didn't stop them from becoming a cult band.             The core of the band consists of singer Chelsea and keyboardist Usher. They founded the band in 1981. The shifts in line-up during Norma Loy's
career were quite impressive, Chelsea and Usher choose not to work with a fixed number of musicians, but to let the line-up depend on the kind of album
they wanted to make. A great value to everyone interested in post-punk/80's goth-rock. Norma Loy was among the very best France offered in those genres.
They dared to experiment, were passionate and never succumbed to any commercial vices. A cult band indeed.(gothtronic.com - 2007)
