Description

This is a terrific Nor. Soul single of "THAT'S WHEN THE TEARS START" b/w
"GOOD, GOOD LOVIN'" by THE BLOSSOMS, a busy backing group from Los
Angeles for many artists on many recordings. It was released on the REPRISE
RECORDS label 0436, 1965?, Promotional Copy. They were called The Dreamers
until a Capitol Records executive said they looked like a bouquet due to their
different skin tones. They became THE BLOSSOMS. Three singles for Capitol
failed to chart.
In 1958, Darlene Wright became the lead singer, but three singles in 1958, 1960,
and 1961 still failed to chart. In 1962, an unknown producer named Phil Spector
used them on "He's A Rebel", using the alias The Crystals, a group who had
already had two hits on the East Coast with Spector. The song became a hit
and made Spector a major force in record production. They recorded again as
The Crystals on "He's Sure The Boy That I Love". Spector gave her the new
stage name Darlene Love.
In 1964, they were reduced to a trio with Love, Fanita James (an original member),
and Jean King. The Blossoms already had released nearly ten singles by the time
this single was put out by REPRISE. The A side was a cover of The Rascals hit
"GOOD, GOOD LOVIN'", but most DJs flipped it to play the B side (written by Van
McCoy) which was the hit. It is just a terrific record. There is only one other copy
that I can find on eBay at this time. This record looks, plays, and sounds great.
Labels are NM and the vinyl looks close to and plays like NM, a very few very light
surface scuffs.
