RARE NORTHERN SOUL
THE SHOWMEN
THE WRONG GIRL/I LOVE YOU CAN’T YOU SEE
LONDON HLP9571
RELEASED 1962.
This was The Showmen’s second release on the Minit label in the US. Maybe surprisingly, after ‘It Will Stand’ was released in the U.K. on the London label with few sales, they also released this follow-up too, ‘The Wrong Girl’. Sadly it fared no better - but it is a great record nonetheless. Later lead singer General Norman Johnson, with his distinctive voice, became more well known with The Chairmen Of The Board.
‘The Wrong Girl’ was released in the U.K. in 1962. I bought it at the time and it has been part of my vast collection of Soul, R&B and Blues records since.
Both sides of the record play absolutely perfectly. Visibly, the record looks to be unmarked. Over 59 years it has been played and handled a few times but, as I have said, plays perfectly. I can hear no extraneous surface noise. There is no handwriting on the record and I have graded it as Excellent (Ex). [In the photos any apparent marks on the record are caused by the reflections of the surroundings and are not on the vinyl.]
The record is in it’s original sleeve, which has no tears. Over 59 years the sleeve has been handled but is in remarkably good condition. The only handwriting on the sleeve is the catalogue no. (9571) that I have written in the top right-hand corner. I have graded the sleeve as Excellent (Ex).
The well packaged record will be despatched by Royal Mail Special Delivery, fully insured, at a subsidised cost of £5.
I always endeavour to combine postage where possible.
U.K. delivery only.
