VERY RARE NORTHERN SOUL 45.
Herb & Doris "Somebody Somewhere Needs You"/"Soul Guitar"

GREAT Soul record on Hip Records. This is their soulful version of the Darrell Banks classic.
As far as grading, I am a terrible judge. I would say this record is a Good to Good Plus. The label is clean with the exception of the word "Roy" in red on one side. As fas as the vinyl, there is basic wear, but nothing to damage the sound of the record.  You can hear it in this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xIp_y-nw6I Please note that this is not my video. I have just posted it here for the purposes of hearing the song. It is really a fantastic record and extremely hard to find. I have seen it one other place in my life and it was listed at $189 - and not a clean label!
I am attaching this link by a record pricer who makes reference to Herb & Doris in his book review. http://recordcollectormag.com/reviews/the-essentialnorthern-soul-priceguide-edition-two This reference, really indicates the rarity of a Herb & Doris 45. This piece is obviously for those who truly collect Northern Soul.
Here is some bio info on Herb & Doris:
HERB & DORIS Are from a group of Artists’ that without a doubt are a big part of the biggest musical explosion in the Pop music field in the last 50 years. They grew up and played with friends like Ike & Tina Turner, Albert King, Little Milton, Chuck Berry, Fontella Bass, Mel & Tim, Oliver Sain, Benny Sharp and the Sharpee’s, Eugene Neal, and a host of other great Artists’ they’ve performed with and developed relationships while on tour, or recording. With deep regret some of these artists’ are no longer with us, but their legacy is still Carried on by Herb & Doris.
HERB SADLER Was born in Granite City, Illinois. In his early teenage years was introduced to a musical scene that was unfolding in the greater St. Louis area, a scene that soon would change pop-music forever. Herbs introduction to Ike Turner by Bill Stevens owner of a small record label called Stevens Records, which Ike was recording for at that time, would make a profound and predominant change in young Herbs life. Herb began studying the sounds that he heard, and soon he formed his own band, and began playing everywhere in the greater St. Louis area. The band he put together was a fine group of musicians who just happened to be an all black group. This made for a unique drawing card because the home gig for the group was ‘The Blue Haven ’ in Brooklyn (Lovejoy) Illinois, a twenty four hour night spot that was in an all black community. Herb’s group was the house band at the Blue Haven they started playing there every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Many famous Artists’ also played at the “Harlem Club” in Brooklyn on those great weekends. They would stop by at the Blue Haven after their show, and sit in with Herb and his group. The Harlem Club had a big Room, where name artists’ played. And in the lounge was “Doc Perry “ and his band. Also was the “Oliver Sain Revue” at “Chuck & Als” One night Herb was paid a surprise visit, at about 4:30 A.M. one Sunday morning at the “Blue Haven” in walked Ike & Tina Turner with the Ikettes and some of his band, they stopped by to say hello, Ike wanted to talk to Herb. That conversation was the beginning of a long standing friendship, and great times in Herb’s young adult life. He was asked to become a member of Ike Turner’s Band the “Famous Kings of Rhythm.” which was the recording and stage band for the “Ike & Tina Turner Revue” of which Herb remained for much of the 60”s and early 70“s. He would tour with them for 10 through 11 months a year. Occasionally would return home for several months to rest. Ike and Tina toured constantly as they became more and more famous. From Herb’s association with Ike and Tina, he has been able to record with so many of the great artists’ of our time, that have entertained fans the world over. Herb has been on many hit records, it’s impossible to list them all. If you have enjoyed the hits of the Mo-town artists’ and many of the great “R & B” artists’ out of Memphis, New York and the west coast, down south etc. you have most likely heard Herb play.
DORIS DORSEY Doris began her professional singing career with the famous “Albert ‘Blues Boy’ King” blues band when she was a young teenager. Doris worked with a host of big name entertainers as a featured vocalist. She was a featured vocalist with Richard Mansfield and the “Magnificent 7”, at the “London House East” in East St. Louis Illinois. Doris was also the founder of the vocal group (“The Moniques”). They experienced great success in “Gaslight Square” in St. Louis during it’s Heyday. The “Moniques” toured many Midwestern states to rave reviews. Doris has performed with, Ike & Tina Turner, Albert King, Luther Ingram, Little Milton, and many others. Herb and Doris became acquainted through both hers and his personal relationships with Ike & Tina Turner. They developed a friendship that has lasted through the years. When not on tour or recording with other big name acts, Herb and Doris are always on the road working, casino’s, cruise ships, military bases, and club dates, here and overseas. Herb & Doris Just might be the best kept secret in the entertainment business today. It has always been a mystery to me, I’ve always wondered how in the world did the ship pass them by. Everyone they grew up with has a hit record or several hits. Herb has told me many times, They were always very busy with personal appearances. They were never able to take the time to look for songs to record. It’s amazing that no one came out of the wood work and pushed them to record more. Herb & Doris are polished professional “World Class Artists”. They have been touring the last 12 years as a duo, with state of the art equipment that lets them pull up a 40 piece orchestra if they need it. Herb’s sequencing is so real with the pro-sound system they have, it is so pristine, that the room they are playing is instantly filled with a sound so rich and big that listeners are irresistibly drawn into the music. Herb plays lead guitar and Doris sings lead vocal with great arrangements and music, that Herb has produced. Where ever they go people are always astonished by what they see and hear.
