Price Goodson Acc. by Da Costa Woltz's Southern Broadcasters, Be Kind to a Man When He Is Down/Lonesome Road Blues (Gennett 6154) (1927).
Teenage singer, accompanied by the matchless Da Costa Woltz's Southern Broadcasters (Ben Jarrell, Frank Jenkins) on Lonesome Road Blues, by his own harmonica and ukulele on Be Kind to a Man When He Is Down.
A rare record, and the only issue of Lonesome Road Blues. Only two copies of Ge 6154 have been offered on eBay in the last decade, the last in 2013.
However—
Both sides start extremely rough, but by about halfway through, both the vocals and the instrumental accompaniments are clearer, and the distortion, blasting, etc., of the earlier parts have calmed down somewhat, resulting in a playing quality of around V-. I have not experienced any sticking or skipping, and there are no severe scratches or digs. Some label wear/damage.
In conclusion, this is somewhat better than a wallhanger or placeholder copy, but really only the second half of each side yields tolerable listening.
