Description
"614! - Chessie Systems" a 2 LP TEST PRESSING released by the predecessor to audiophile pioneer Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs, MOBILE FIDELITY RECORDS founded by BRAD MILLER (See Scan 3 of portion of inside Insert), is one of 4 initial releases containing TRAIN SOUNDS released in 1981. These were the impetus for the founding of the company, which Herb Belkin bought into and took over the same year and started releasing audiophile music LPs. The Catalog Number is the same as the # on the train - 615 - as were all 4 train releases (I'm also auctioning "765!" and "8444!").
Both LPs are TEST PRESSINGs (Scan 4). There were very few of these made (in later years, I believe less than 50 per release - for these early LPs, I would imagine much less) and were the first LPs pressed in Japan from the mother stamper and offer even more ultimate sound!
They come with a single B&W folded insert (Scan 2 shows front) for one of the LPs, which on the inside contains alot of information about the train and its route, which the records follow, with detailed info on stops, etc. There are more pictures on the backside and inside. The Gatefold Cover also has more color pics on the inside and back.
This and other MFSL LPs I'm selling came from a former employer who rarely and in most cases never played any of them. They're beauties!
The LPs are in MINT condition with No spindle marks on the labels and not a mark or scratch on the 4 sides of clean, glossy vinyl. The LPs are in the special rice inner sleeves, with the one cardboard insert.
The Gatefold Cover is in NEAR MINT MINUS condition with all seams intact, corners generally sharp (Bottom right front corner has 1/4" split on the bottom seam at opening), and the front and back showing very light wear with the slight spotting on the front and back. On the back cover there is a vertical wrinkle near the middle, which I have no idea how it might have occured, and is of minimal distraction. When I acquired it, the cover was in a plastic outer sleeve.
