Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so.    RARE & SOUGHT AFTER ORIGINAL 1973 FIRST PRESS

                  GENE CLARK

               "ROADMASTER"

\                                          GERMAN - A&M RECORDS -

RARE!!! and sought after ...

Original early '70s first pressing of the "lost" Gene Clark album....Gene Clark was more than the "Dylan" or "Neil Young" that never was...He was the "Gene Clark " that never was. And "Roadmaster" might be the Gene Clark album that never was...

This early '70s original was released by A&M Records as a limited edition - only in Germany - where Gene Clark had a huge cult following... the original owner of whom we obtained this beautiful copy from paid $150. for it several years ago...the price tag is still on the outer plastic cover...

"Roadmaster" wasn't the album that Gene Clark had intended to release after "White Light" (aka "Gene Clark").  What happened was the "Roadmaster" sessions collapsed admit chaos due to drugs. Evidently Sly Stone came in while Gene wasn't working on the album and ran up the tab in the same studio (with Gene's producer at the helm)causing the project to go overbudget (food and drugs contributed as well) and A&M ultimately cancelled the album sessions.

Clark might have been the Byrd that flew the coop too soon but he was essential in establishing the band. As the gorgeous likes "She's the of Kind of Girl", "One In a Hundred" and "Full Circle" all go to show. His best work possesses an intense, introspective poetic lyricism. Accompanied by a laid back combination of Rootsy Folk and savvy 60's Pop-craft. His genius was at invoking an almost opiate, transcendental feel, casting a spell in that moment between reverie and sleep. Sunset & Dusk... Morning & Dawn..."In A Misty Morning" is the epitome of all that.

Clark fans seem mutually agreed on the essentials: Both Dillard & Clark Lp's; "White Light" and the lavishly baroque, "No Other". "Roadmaster" is an unexpected little oasis...And while his enduring legacy and obscurity are both due to his brilliance as much as to his unreliability, brevity has it's value. Though lesser known than his contemporaries, Clark was with up there with the best of his generation. And Roadmaster is a worthy addition to his legacy
Highlights are all over the place and include "She's the Kind of Girl" and "One In a Hundred" which are backed by the Byrds (from a shelved 1970 album project) and would have been stand out tracks on any Byrds album.'One In a Hundred' appears on the 'White Light' album in a pared down form (which is very different but also excellent) and was actually recorded after this version. One can only echoe the thoughts voiced by others, what if he'd been allowed to remain with the Byrds?
'Here Tonight'(track 3) was recorded with the 'Flying Burrito Brothers' and is one one the sweetest and most instantly lovable melodies you may ever hear. It's followed by two more high quality Gene Clark originals 'Full Circle Song' (sequestered onto the Byrds reunion album with a slightly shortened title) and the fantastic 'In a Misty Morning' a rural tinged gem. Elsewhere, is the brooding but thrilling "Rough and Rocky;" the rocking vibes of the title track "Roadmaster," and the gentle, tender, intelligent songs, "I Really Don't Want to Know," "I Remember the Railroad," and "Shooting Star." Gene was a mystic, for he speaks directly to our soul.
