Description

This original Gold 7" Single RIAA award is rare. Great for fans of the band or of its members. Although they began as an artsy prog-rock band, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late '70s and early '80s, due to a fondness for bombastic rockers and soaring power ballads. The seeds for the band were planted in another Chicago band during the late '60s, the Tradewinds, which featured brothers Chuck and John Panozzo (who played bass and drums, respectively), as well as acquaintance Dennis DeYoung (vocals, keyboards). By the dawn of the '70s, the group had changed their name to TW4, and welcomed aboard a pair of guitarists/vocalists, James "JY" Young and John Curulewski -- securing a recording contract in 1972 with Wooden Nickel Records (a subsidiary of RCA). Soon after, the group opted to change their name once more, this time to Styx, named after a river from Greek mythology that ran through the 'land of the dead' in the underworld. Award is 15 1/4" Tall X 13 1/4" Wide X 1 14" Deep. Award has a gold colored wood frame. Some discoloration on the award because award is over 25 years old. There is no RIAA hallogram as it was before they did that. VERY IMPORTANT; MUST READ - Award’s original recipient’s name will be engraved out in order to preserve the anonymity that the owner has requested as a condition of the sale. The original recipient’s name will be engraved out and the buyer has the following options 1) For an extra $40 fee, they can have HIS/HER name engraved on the award on a strip of metal that will affixed over the place of the original name. Thus, please realize that the new name will not be flush with the original plaque surface but instead will have slight 1/8” rise. 2) Or the buyer can choose NOT to have his/her name engraved, however, we must still have original name engraved out – NO EXCEPTIONS. Regardless of option 1) or 2) above there will be at least a 2 – 3 week delay since award will need to be taken to engraver in all circumstances (either to engrave out original name and engrave in new name or just to engrave out original name). QUESTIONS: If you have any questions, rather than bid first and ask later, please email me prior to bidding. My email is mitch@swagadelic.com. S&H: Will vary according by distance. All S&H is to be done via USPS unless a Fedex number is given in which case prior arrangements must be made. Domestic S&H for USPS Priority Mail will be approximately $34.99. Int’l S&H estimate must be done once weight is determined and will vary according to recipient country.
