PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Caravan's For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night presents some changes (again) in the line-up, with a return of Richard Sinclair to the keyboards. The sound of the band, though, is not much different than the other albums, with the traditional mix between prog rock, poprock and psychedelic mixes. The album features a controvertial cover, with a pregnant woman. It would be much more controvertial if Caravan's original idea, of a naked pregnant woman, was accepted, but their label refused the idea, of course.
Memory Lain, Hugh / Headloss is a strong opener for the album, with nice blend of prog rock and psychedelia, the trademark of Canterbury sound. The song starts fast paced, with some jazz hints and embarks in an excellent brass, flute, haunting organ and guitar instrumental overture in the end of the first part of the song. The second part of the song is more poprock oriented, but with good rhythm and synthesizer sounds. The vocal harmonies are great also. The end of the song has a nice instrumental part, with highlight to the violin and guitar interplay.
The next song is Hoedown, poprock melody oriented but excellent. First, the song is in 7/8, though the rhythm will please anyone. The song is fast-paced and inspired in early 20th century moves and a real Hoedown. The song has excellent violin, marimba and vocal work. Caravan managed to put everybody to dance in 7/8, an incredible feat.
Surprise, Surprise is another song on the lighter and poppier side of the album. The song has excellent bass and vocal melodies. The chorus is catchy as well and the musical arrangements, though not out of this world, are beautiful, including a nice violin solo.
C'Thlu Thlu is perfectly placed in the album, changing the mood to somber. The intro of the song is very somber, with a bass and drums riff. The song changes for the bridge and chorus, with guitar and violin, with a more upbeat sound, and returns to the somber riffs to other verses. The instrumental interlude is has excellent guitar work and synthesizer, the closest Caravan ever reached to hard-rock.
The Dog, The Dog, He's At it Again is a song strong implicit sexual references in the lyrics, and it shows the humorous vein of the band, because the musical arrangements are exactly what you would not expect in a song with such lyrics. The song has a light mood, with variations, complex moves, beautiful guitar, piano and violin arrangements, beautiful vocal melody and harmonies and a superb synthesizer solo.
Be All Right / Chance Of A Lifetime is another "harder" song, with great guitar, drums and violin work. There is really good guitar soloing. Then the song changes completely to an acoustic part, with acoustic guitar, violin and congas. Then there is a superb violin solo over excellent bass and drums.
L'auberge du Sanglier / A hunting we shall go / Pengola / Backwards / A hunting we shall go (reprise) is the longest and most prog song of the album, with many different parts, moods, rhythms, melodies. The song starts almost classical, with great acoustic guitar and violin. Then the song gets very proggy, with a superb instrumental section, including heavy organ riffs, superb bass and violin and guitar solos. Then the song changes to a calmer part, with good synthesizer and guitar solos and beautiful arrangements, that goes till the end of the song.
A great mix of psychedelic & complex prog melodies, creating an excellent progressive album. Certainly will please most of the prog fans.
