Description
One of my top ten albums of all time...a very special record. Subdued, minimalistic, yet piercing and clearheaded. An amazing set of songs mostly written by Stuart Moxham, and all sung by the wonderful Alison Statton, no vibrato, just straight tone, never loud, never crooning or projecting--just inward, feeling, remembering, and stating.
The music is keyboard and bass, or guitar and bass, but as if both instruments are built into the floor and are coming from a different place.
Sorry that this is so hard to describe! If it were easier, I wouldn't love it so much. Please try to hear this one on streaming, you'll know within 20 seconds whether you love it or hate it.
They're from Glasgow I think. Not too many people in the US were interested, so copies of the US pressing on Rough Trade are more rare.
If you're crazy about this, you might want to look up Alison's next band, called Weekend..it's a bit hard to find streaming, but so rewarding.
But this one here is the classic. There's nothing else like it.
