Description
This is an essentially perfect copy of a rare classic Island label vinyl LP (issue Number HELP7) released in 1972. Both the record and the cover are in Mint condition. The fact that this item is either a demo or mispressed version with a white centre label (see photograph) serves to make it a unique copy. The matrix numbers are HELP7 A-1U and HELP7 B-1U. The group - The Habbibiya - include three key members of UK underground legends Mighty Baby (whose other records command very high prices today). They are: Martin Stone, Ian Whiteman and Mike Evans. These musicians were profoundly affected, both musically and spiritually, by visiting Morocco in 1971, and became adherents of the Sufi faith. It is said that Richard Thompson and his wife Linda were introduced to the Sufi faith through a meeting with band members. Other members of The Habibiyya band were Conrad and Susan Archuletta. The record has been described as one of the earliest and most beautiful pieces of world music produced in Britain, which conjures a hypnotic and otherworldly ambience. All in all a great and exceedingly rare item to have in any record collection.
