RARE unissued DJ jazz promo SAVOY RADIO SHOW Bob Porter CHARLIE PARKER Coltrane Shipping Info   Description &sort LP – SAVOY RADIO SHOW – rare unissued white-label 12” 33rpm album with no sleeve (as issued), with “Arista Records” on the labels. No printed date but it was 1976. A radio program with Les Davis and discographer Bob Porter (who was hired to go through Savoy's master tapes from the 1940s to 1960s, and he spent six months at it. He gives a brief history of Savoy (mellow voices, lots of hep talk like ‘cats’ and ‘they were real gone’), discussing the upcoming release of “The Savoy Sessions” by Arista (1976), a series of jazz albums containing many never-before-released tracks and performances by Cannonball Adderley, Lester Young, John Coltrane, Yusef Lateef, Errol Gardner and Charlie Parker. They talk about Davis’ recent purchase of the Savoy catalog for Arista Records, the Savoy history, the WWII era, a patriotic early ‘40’s track by trumpeter and blues singer Hot Lips Page (it is called “Uncle Sam ain’t no woman but he sure can take your man”). Then a Count Basie track, a 1944 Lester Young track called “Blue Lester" or "Lester”, a discussion of blues, jazz and bop; then the Charlie Parker tracks “Now’s the Time” and “Parker’s Mood” from the double LP of master takes; then the “disturbing” Parker track “Coco” (with Dizzy Gillespie on both trumpet and piano); a long, early Cannonball Adderley track; then very early John Coltrane – an unreleased track called “Countdown” from the Wilbur Harden Session. Labels have a touch of scuffing; vinyl has a few scratches and does have a few spots where it skips a couple of grooves; I listened all the way through and it only happened during some of the talking, most notably at the very beginning of side 1 (a nickel on the head above the cartridge really did help in this case, eradicating more than half of the 8 to 10 very short skips). Condition is Good+.

REGARDING IMAGE QUALITY: Some of our older listings have images of poor quality; a few months ago Ebay changed their image size policies, and I was forced to automatically enlarge the images for all of last years' remaining items, which caused them to be grainy and blurry.
