· ONE OF THE RAREST RCA VICTOR LIVING STEREO ALBUMS IN EXISTENCE (MANY BELIEVE THIS IS THE RAREST): P.I.TCHAIKOVSKY – OVERTURE 1812; MENDELSOHN – FINGAL'S CAVE OVERTURE ; LISZT – MEPHISTO WALTZ; BRAHMS – TRAGIC OVERTURE

· ORIGINAL 1958 "RCA VICTOR LIVING STEREO" AUDIOPHILE, EXTENDED DYNAMIC RANGE, ANALOG VINYL LP LSC-2241
· WHEN THEIR MAIN RIVAL AND COMPETITOR, MERCURY RECORDS, BEAT THEM TO IT AND RELEASED THEIR VERSION OF OVERTURE 1812 WITH BELLS AND CANNONS (AND ALL OTHER MANNERS OF GIMMICKRY), AND MANAGED TO OUTSOLD RCA VERSION BY A TEN-TO-ONE RATIO, RCA VICTOR DECIDED TO PULL ALL COPIES OF THIS ALBUM FROM THE MARKET: ONLY ABOUT 1000 COPIES ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE MADE IT TO THE MARKET, OF WHICH PROBABLY LESS THAN 300 COPIES SURVIVE IN PLAYABLE CONDITION
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· ORIGINAL RED "SHADED DOG" RCA VICTOR LIVING STEREO LABEL WITH SILVER PRINT
· ORIGINAL, THICK CARDBOARD COVER (AMERICAN STYLE)

- (c) any subsequent pressing made after 1966;
THIS IS THE GENUINE, AUTHENTIC, LIVING STEREO ALBUM.

The 1812 Overture stands as perhaps the ultimate example of Reiner's redemption of a tired and often tiresome old warhorse. Most modern performances rely on sonic gimmickry for their impact. Reiner, though, foregoes the usual cannons, fireworks and carillons. Instead, he simply plays the music with unembellished enthusiasm. As a result, the recording emerges as a fine piece of musical craftsmanship. In revealing its intrinsic value, Reiner's reading is not only powerful in its own right, but makes the standard aural sideshow seem utterly ridiculous by comparison. (Peter Gutmann: Fritz Reiner: The Art of Economy).
***
"RCA Living Stereo" recordings - mostly classical, but also a handful of pop and easy listening titles - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. On mint or near mint copies , quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus has hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive tweeter to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. This is the music for the ears, heart, soul, mind and guts alike.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) THE VINYL IS IN DECENT, VERY GOOD (VG) CONDITION. CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in clean, playable condition. There are a few surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters) and a few others that might cause short periods of pops and clicks, specially during the low, quiet passages.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has a partially split top seam (between 4 and 6 inches / 10 to 15 centimeters)
- Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 1 and 2 inches / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4
- Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover shows some yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (nothing significant).
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine
- A minor, faint water stain affects the area about 1/4 inch wide along the spine (visible on both sides, nothing significant) (less than 2 square inches in size, total)
- Visible shelf wear noted on the seams
- Cover has some tiny, faint, barely visible writing on its back side
- Cover has a small original price sticker, which may be possible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to)
- The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the back side
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No stamps
- No peel-off marks
- No mold or mildew spots
- No water damage
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No warping
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No glue traces or wax residue.
- No bar codes
- No RIAA stamps or stickers.
