Rat "War Kitchen" tape issued by ??? (RTo3) in the lathe 1970s / early 1980s. ****** Tape:m- / Cov:m- ****** Probably the most obscure edition in this auction… I was able to find absolutely nothing about this project or about the tape label publishing it. The graphics are very minimal and in the style of the early 1980s, while the music is made of very well organized repeating electronic rhythms, sad melodies superimposed to primitive drum machines. The project is called Rat and the title seems to be "War Kitchen". No publisher mentioned on the tape, just the catalogue number which is RTo3. The tracks on Side A are "Main Titles", "Forget This Way", "Wear Your War" and "Secret Broadcasting". On Side B: "Breakfast Strategy", "Laboratory Stress", "Warning!" and "End Titles". The music is more rhythmic and less concrete that Tietchens first tapes, in fact this tape reminds me much of early Monoton, or some moments of H.N.A.S. or the most revolutionary and abstract electronic side of early Eroc. Surely there are many tape treatments, but the synth guiding lines are so minimal and well done that create an unique sound superimposed to the old-fashioned hyper-modern drum machine pulsating rhythms we all love so much. You will surely see this tape reissued on LP sooner or later, once ot gets out of its obscurity… so your choice to try to get the original now.
