Issued under the title Ray Charles in 1957, this Jerry Wexler-produced set was Ray Charles' debut album for Atlantic Records, and it was a gem, with powerful, timeless performances of "I Got a Woman," Henry Glover's "Drown in My Own Tears, Ahmet Ertegun's "Mess Around," a stomping version of "Hallelujah I Love Her So," and Lowell Fulson's "Sinner's Prayer," among other vintage Charles delights. The album was reissued in 1962 with the title Hallelujah I Love Her So, and has since also been reissued under the title Rock & Roll, but whatever it's called, it introduced one of the most dynamic performers of the 20th century to a new and wider audience.

Please note: Many Atlantic original master tapes were destroyed in a New York fire in the early 1970s. This is one of the titles irretrievably lost in that fire. If you wish to hear how magnificent this album really is, go for the original or very early pressings – forget about the compact disc, which is made from the later (digitally enhanced production or back-up) tape and sounds awful, EVEN with all kinds of digital “baking”.

(b)          The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)           The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ?SHRINK WRAP (LOOSE-FITTING PLASTIC BAGGY)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)
