Formed in 2010 by producer and Kokolo Afrobeat leader Ray Lugo and inspired by the music and cadence of pioneers such as The Joe Cuba Sextet, Bobby Valentin, Pete Rodriguez and El Gran Combo, The Boogaloo Destroyers set out to rekindle the spark of Boogaloo music, a style that brought together different races and social backgrounds through the unifying spirit of dancing.

Ray Lugo's mind is very fertile, and he's been rather prolific over the last decade, putting out a variety of groovy sounds ranging from organic to electronic, afrobeat to soul, Latin to Brazilian and many different sorts of mashup/fusions in between. But just because he is creatively fecund doesn't mean the quality suffers - each album is hand-crafted and Ray takes his time to shape and mold it to just the right proportions.

With richly textured arrangements, exquisite playing by some of The Big Apple’s finest musicians and a repertoire of all original scores, the selections on “¡Que Chevere!” move at an energizing pace, producing the palpable rhythms and beats that only a true swinging band is capable of.
