Description
EDITH WILSON lived a long and satisfying life (1896 - 1980), and it had several epochs. F. Scott Fitzgerald famously said there are "no second acts in American lives," but surely Edith Wilson had three or four.
She was, as you will hear on this record, a fine blues singer; she scaled the heights of show business, appearing with the most elite black performers (Fats Waller, Bill Robinson, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, etc. etc), and easily broke into white show business, appearing in Hollywood films like "To Have and Have Not." Hers was the face of Aunt Jemima's pancakes for about ten years, and she had a resurgence as a blues singer that lasted till her death in 1980! Good on YOU, Edith!
The present record is her 1922 opus, "HE MAY BE YOUR MAN (BUT HE COMES TO SEE ME SOMETIMES)" backed with "RULES AND REGULATIONS, SIGNED, RAZOR JIM." Her accompanists are JOHNNY DUNN'S JAZZ HOUNDS, no mean unit in their own right. It's a fabulous record, and very clean, besides.
This original 1922 "Exclusive Artist" Columbia A 3653 is in peachy EE- condition. Note the 1923 "Majestic Music Shop" of Minneapolis sticker on the label!

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!
