RCA LSC 2201, Moussorgsky / Ravel, “Pictures at an Exhibition”, Fritz Reiner, Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1958) Mohr/Layton. NOTE: This is the 200 gm Analogue Productions reissue – it is NOT the original. This is one of the best of the RCA living stereo recordings, and is a landmark recording of “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Recorded by the legendary team of Richard Mohr and Lewis Layton, the sound and ambiance are spectacular. It has a very wide and deep sound-stage with huge dynamics. This copy is virtually perfect – I purchased it new when it was first released, and have played it only twice. The vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy and quiet with no pops, clicks, skips or tics. It is very close to a perfect copy and plays beautifully. The vinyl grading is mint (M) and the labels are clean with no spindle wear. The jacket is also mint (M) (see photos). In summary, this is a beautiful copy of this wonderful golden age reissue.
