Description

RCA LSC 2423, “Festival” Fritz Reiner, Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1960) 1s/1s (I) Indianapolis pressing (Mohr/Layton): Kabalevsky-Colas Breugnon, Op. 24: Overture, Tchaikovsky-Marche slave, Borodin-Prince Igor: Act III: Polovski March, Moussorgsky- A Night on Bare Mountain Tchaikovsky- Marche miniature (from Suite No. 1 in D minor, Op. 43) Glinka- Russian and Ludmilla: Overture.  This is NOT a reissue – it is the original 50+ year old 1s/1s shaded dog pressing.  This is one of the rarest and best of the early RCA’s. It spent many years HP's TAS Super Disk List, and the sound is huge, exciting and dynamic. It is set in a very wide and deep stage with powerful bass.  PLEASE NOTE: This copy is NOT perfect.  For the most part, it plays very well, HOWEVER, there are some scuffs on each side that cause audible tics, particularly on side 2, where there are 10 very soft repeating tics, followed by two sets of 3-4 tics each with the second set a bit louder. To my mind, these are not serious enough to interfere with the enjoyment of the music, but everyone is different, so feel free to return if not satisfied –  I don’t think you will be disappointed. Vinyl grading is EX/VG+ and the labels are clean, but show some signs of wear including a few light spindle trails (see photos). The jacket is VG with a 1” seam split on the top right corner, and another on the bottom right corner (see photos).  Overall, this is a very nice copy that plays extremely well, except for the tics already noted.  Feel free to return for full refund if not completely satisfied. Shipping is free anywhere in the continental US.  Outside of the US, buyer pays shipping through eBay's international shipping program.
