Description
RCA Living Stereo Original LSC 2314 Heifetz/Munch/Boston Symphony Orchestra historic 1959 performances of the Mendelssohn and Prokofieff Violin Concertos is a available with your winning bid.
This pressing is a 7s/5s Indianapolis stamper.
Backstory: this record came from a collection of a newspaper columnist who did classical record reviews and concert reviews back in the mid 1950's and into the 1960's.
The columnist tagged every record he had and immediately recorded each new record onto reel to reel and then placed the records onto his shelves. If he ever played the record again he would note the date it was played.
I came a cross his collection some twenty years ago after his passing. The entire collection had been moved into a vintage 19 foot Scottie travel trailer next to the house. Records were stacked to the ceiling atop sinks, the toilet and on all beds and available flooring. I spent two days pulling stacks out of the trailer so I could create a pathway to look through the incredible archive of RCA and Mercury and other classical recordings. I only purchased records that were played one time to be recorded. To the best of my knowledge this record was only played once before I purchased it and one other time recently for me to play grade it. It is a wonderful lp with seductive harmonics and great dynamics. It is a true treasure.
This record was play graded by listening through each side in its entirety. Both sides have clean surfaces with no scuffs and there are no spindle marks. Visually this record would rate mint.
Sonically there are a few light background tics that are indicative of the way new pressings played nearly sixty years ago. Side two begins with a few light tics that are again not intrusive.
The record plays without distortion and the mentioned tics are not intrusive and the record plays like a new lp release of 60 years ago...it has stunning wonderful performance by Heifetz at the height if his musical talents. This record was highly regarded by The Absolute Sound.
I know there is a wide variety of grading variances by collectors. If your ratings for mint allows for a random occasional tick then this record would probably rate nm to nm+ It does sound like a new record....you only have to hear the harmonics to realize that this disc has had almost no play and it is one of the quietest copies if this I have ever owned.
If you collect only absolutely pristine no noise lps this one will not be something for you. It is still a wonderfully enjoyable record and plays probably like it did when opened. If you bid on the basis of nm rating I think you will be quite satisfied with this record.
The cover/jacket is in wonderful it looks like it just came out of the record store. The paper sleeve even has to be pulled with extra effort..so tight is its fit as if it has never been our if its jacket. The last two photos show the album cover still in its original shrink wrap which was removed to show the really nice condition the front and back are in.
Background information: I am a music collector and audiophile. Selling duplicate copies is not a lively hood but a way to help fund my wife's and my heart for serving overseas with a non-denominational non profit organization and to help get quality hard to locate records into the hands of music lovers.. I go out of my way to accurately describe the condition of anything I sell and my eBay ratings affirm this point. I would not appreciate a surprise if I were buying a record and do not want you to be disappointed either.
I sell quality records only. I fully play through each record I sell.
Playback is through my personal stereo which has a two well respected turntables with high end moving coil and moving magnet cartridges that are painstakingly set up and maintained. I use a high resolution tube preamp and full range electrostatic speakers and additional sub woofers to grade each listing. My system is neutral and transparent and revealing. I cannot guarantee how the record will sound in your home because people use a wide array of gear set up in unique acoustic settings adjusted to personal tastes.
I can spend countless hours and longer tweaking a cartridge. I hear minute differences in VTA, tracking force, anti skate and even the base the turntable rests upon. The way you have yours set up may highlight a certain aspect of a records character. I strive for a balanced musical set up where small differences between pressings are easily heard but the musical heart of the recording is still allowed to thrive. I only offer records that I myself would buy.
If you cannot stand any noise on an LP I ask you not to purchase anything I offer even if rated mint. I have found even new sealed pressings often to have occasional tics and pops. Occasional pops and light tics can be found on most records that visually rate mint..that is why I audio grade each LP.
I have an outstanding eBay rating so you can purchase with confidence.
Shipping: you have two options UPS ground with a signature to guarantee safe delivery where I pay the additional $4 signature cost. I will securely ship your record via UPS with required signature upon delivery to insure safe delivery. As stated, the additional charges for the required signature ($4.00) are absorbed by me but does help prevent the chance of packages being stolen from a mail box or front porch.
I absorb any other shortfall in UPS charges that often occur due to calculator underestimates. I also assume all costs for new shipping boxes, bubble wrap and extra strong strapping tape. ( My packages are sometimes a little larger and heavier than other shippers but I have yet to have anyone receive a shipment from me that was damaged).
Option 2: US postal media mail which is the least expensive but can take much longer. I will take a photo of your package before shipping but cannot assume responsibility beyond providing you with proof that the record was shipped if you opt for the economy shipping and are comfortable assuming the risk in this shipping mode. Your book rate mailing is a flat $4.00 shipping fee. Please just notify me at time if placing your winning bid which shipping option you prefer.
Shipment is normally made within 24 hours of receiving your Pay Pal payment which should be made no longer than 24 to 48 hours after placing the winning bid. I notify you the day shipment is made and provide a tracking number so you can monitor the shipment.
I reserve the right to not sell to eBay members who are problematic such as those who have slow or no pay histories or those who also offer excessive negative feedback. I would like to think I am one of eBay's good guys and want to deal with similar people.
