CLASSIC RECORDS: DELUXE 1S EDITION -
Ten-Record Limited Edition Collection (this is serial number #0251) of Classic Records earliest (1994) reissues of long out-of-print early stereo RCA recordings. Here is a summary:
LSC-1806: STRAUSS - Also Sprach Zarathustra (Reiner/CSO; the first of their two recordings of the work [1954]; see The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #75/76, page 78).
LSC-1900: BERLIOZ - Symphonie Fantastique (Munch/BSO; the first of their two recordings of the work [1954]; never issued by RCA in stereo until a British VICS, though it was listed briefly in RCA catalogs around 1960).
LSC-1934: BARTOK - Concerto for Orchestra (Reiner/CSO; The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #65, pages 154+176; Issue #73, page 147).
LSC-2234: SAINT-SAENS - Piano Concerto #2 & FRANCK - Symphonic Varitions (Rubinstein; Wallenstein/Symphony of the Air; The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #45+146; Issue #93, page144).
LSC-2398: KABALEVSKY - Comedians Suite & KHACHATURIAN - Masquerade Suite (Kondrashin/RCA Victor Sym; The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #65, page 156; Issue #75/76, page 76; Issue #93, pages 46-7).
LSC-2423: FESTIVAL (Reiner/CSO; The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #73, page 150).
LSC-2456: LALO - Symphonie Espagnole (Szeryng; Hendl/CSO; The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #86, page 184).
LSC-2471: RHAPSODIES (Stokowski/RCA Victor Sym; The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #65, page 180; Issue #73, page 150).
LSC-2500: STRAUSS WALTZES (Reiner/CSO; The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #65, page 158; Issue #75/76, page 76).
LSC-2541: LISZT - Totentanz & RACHMANINOFF - Piano Concerto #1 (Janis; Reiner/CSO).
[Except that LSC-1806 & LSC-1900 have been opened, and are Near-Mint, still in the original plastic, otherwise - This is a Mint copy as issued: that is, the box comes in a plastic bag, but is not itself sealed; every individual disc, except the two mentioned above, is factory-sealed and also has its own limited edition sticker, #0251 (those two also have the same serial number sticker despite having been opened.]
This lovely production collects original copies of superb pressings of ten discs which are mostly VERY scarce and much sought-after in their original issues. The original subscription price for this set, issued in 1994, was $400.
This copy also includes the two letters (see photo) sent from Classic Records as they were completing delivery of this initial subscription order.
