RECONSTRUCTION a morality 3LP box BENNINK MENGELBERG BREUKER EX/MINT-!!

ORIGINAL 1969 3LP BOX ON STEIM RECORDING OPUS 001, HOLLAND

REVOLUTIONARY MODERN OPERA COMPOST BY THE CREAM OF DUTCH MODERN CLASSICAL AND JAZZ COMPOSERS : LOUIS ANDRIESSEN, MISHA MENGELBERG , PETER SCHAT , REINBERT DE LEEUW AND JAN VAN VLIJMEN.

EXTREMELY RARE ITEM ESPECIALLY IN THIS SHAPE!!!

Boxset is in great shape. Just light wear, small scratch on front, what looks like wear bottom front is actually part of the image. I rate it EX.

Booklet (picture a bit unsharp, but superb item in reality) is new.

Vinyl is MINT- (9.5 out of 10). It looks unplayed, but is probably only played once.

Before the first performance during the 1969 Holland Festival, Reconstructie roused already much commotion because of its main thematic content and because of the cooperation of five of the most promising and revolutionary pupils of Kees van Baaren4). Reconstructie is not just an opera. It was meant by all composers and authors involved as a political document, a statement, of the late 1960s, a multi-media production without comparison.

And indeed, even Luigi Nono, Luciano Berio or Bernd Alois Zimmermann, of whom each has written important avant-garde, multi media opera's (the most famous example of these is probably Zimmermann's Die Soldaten) did not produce a document of such direct impact, with such an abundancy of symbolic allusions and references, with such political intentions (some politicians even were afraid it would have political implications).

The daily and weekly newspapers commented on the political content of this morality - especially in those days of student revolts, political manifestations and general discontent among intellectuals with the status quo in the Dutch society and the world of the arts5) -, on the extraordinary combination of singing and acting, of art and pop music, of electronics and instrumental groups, of avant-garde techniques and Mozart-pastiche, but also on the fact that this opera was commissioned by the Nederlandse Opera Stichting (Netherlands Opera Foundation), which received subventions from the state, and thus this opera was indirectly paid by the Government itself.

All performances in the Theatre Carré were completely sold out. The international press reacted with mixed feelings. It wasn't easy not to criticize the political implications - especially in those days -, not to react on the anti-imperialism of the action, the fierce attack on the American intervention in Latin-America. It was all in the libretto, thrown onto the audience with much energy and will power.

Although the music and the action on the stage, the building of a huge statue of Che Guevara, the rape of Bolivia moulded in a miniature neo-Mozart opera, the impressive singing of the god Quetzalcoatl accompanied by an electronically amplified contrabass recorder, were much acclaimed by the audience, Reconstructie hasn't been revived yet.

General Info:

Please note that I try to rate conservatively, which is contrary to my average experience on eBay. Unfortunately many items at eBay nowadays are being sold highly overrated! I buy quite some records via eBay, but so often it is disappointing. Items rated as MINT- and just being EX or even less! So, I try to do my best to fight this trend on eBay by rating carefully and describing precisely what the condition of the item is. Please let me know if I over- (or under- :-) ) rated my item. And be aware that I want happy buyers, so in case your not satisfied, please contact me before giving any negative feedback and I'm sure we find a solution.

PLEASE SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS. I AM A RECORD COLLECTOR WITH FAR TOO MANY ITEMS IN MY COLLECTION (~15,000 LP's). I'M SELLING ALL THE ITEMS OF WHICH I HAVE MORE THAN ONE COPY AND/OR THE ITEMS I'M NOT INTERESTED IN ANYMORE. MY OWN COLLECTION IS VERY BROAD: CLASSICAL MUSIC, JAZZ, BLUES, PUNK, INDIE, WAVE, PSYCH & PROG ROCK, KRAUTROCK, AVANT GARDE, ETC. SO KEEP LOOKING, BECAUSE THERE MAY BE SOMETHING FOR ALL OF YOU ON OFFER! I TRY TO OFFER ITEMS EVERY WEEK, BUT DUE TO LOTS OF TRAVELLING FOR MY DAYTIME JOB, I SOMETIMES SKIP A FEW WEEKS. I TRY TO GRADE MY ITEMS AS BEST I CAN, BUT NO ONE IS PERFECT, SO LET ME KNOW IF YOU FEEL I WAS WRONG. THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Rating Scheme:

10 - MINT = Never played, unused. Either sealed records or records coming from old stock. New.

09.5 - MINT- = As new, but opened and most probably played although this is not noticable. Archive copy.

09 - NEAR MINT = Almost new, vinyl shiny black, only a few thin sleeve lines at the most on the vinyl, sleeve just perfect with only the slightest signs of use, perfect sound without background noise or ticks from scratches. Archive copy, no real need to upgrade anymore.

08 - EXCELLENT = Few  sleeve lines or superficial marks are possible, but these are non audible, the sleeve may have light signs of use (for example very small corner wear) but looks still perfect, the sound is still almost perfect, with maybe some very slight background noise and/or some light ticks. Contrary to common practice on eBay an EX is closer to NM then to VG! This is still an archivable copy!

07 - VERY GOOD +(+) = This is a normal used copy, which you find most often. Still a very good playable copy with great sound quality, but you will notice marks, stains or lines on the vinyl and/or sleeve. Sometimes there's some writing on the sleeve or a small mark of a sticker. Small creases are possible, slight ring wear, etc.

06 - VERY GOOD = This is a bit more heavily used, but still ok to play and to have. May have just a bit more of the characteristics mentioned above.

05 - VERY GOOD -(-)  = A VG item is JUST ok to still play or to have, but in the end you really would want to upgrade this item to a better quality. Still playable, but with clear background noise and the occasional tick. No jumps though! And not ruined! Sleeve has very clear signs of wear/use.

04 - GOOD = Anything below acceptable in normal circumstances. I only offer rare items in this category or under the circumstance that only the sleeve or vinyl has this low category, so that buyers may have interest to upgrade part of their own item.
