Description
HERE IS a rare chance for you to pick up ALL FOUR of the legendary 1935 sides by THE NEW MUSIC OF REGINALD FORESYTHE, (on clean, beautiful, matching "Royal Blue" Columbia records), with a stellar jazz cast: BENNY GOODMAN and JOHNNY MINCE (clarinets), "TOOTS" MONDELLO, HYMIE SCHERTZER and DICK CLARK (saxophones), SOL SCHOENBACH (bassoon), REGINALD FORESYTHE (pianist, composer and arranger), GENE KRUPA (drums) and JOHN KIRBY (bass).

Dissonant and contrapuntal, modern, exciting and swinging as you could hope for, eschewing brass instruments altogether, using six woodwinds, both symphony and jazz guys - with everything from Bachian counterpoint to Schoenbergian Tone Clusters, these are some of the edgiest records Benny - or anyone! - made in the 1930s. Here's how these sides are described in the (essential!) D. Russell Connor & Warren Hicks' volume, "BG On the Record." (1969):
"...Not until Eddie Sauter fed in his unorthodox charts [in the '40s] did Benny slant so far from his customary swing idiom; and nothing in this vein, save perhaps for the BG-Norvo "In a Mist" date, preceded these sides. The date, of course, is the REGINALD FORESYTHE session, an event Krupa recalls with clarity and great relish. Gene remembers that Benny, he and the other BG sidemen admired "Reggie" Foresythe, and given a chance to record some of his compositions, they leapt at it. They were pleased with the results, the sounds are still fresh [in 2018, too!] and Gene cites 'Lullabye' as a continuing favorite of his."
These are two, original, 1935 "Royal Blue" Columbia records, Nos. 3012-D and 3060-D. They both are in E condition.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
