Another outstanding Renaissance album! Compared to the previous album "Ashes are burning", the bass is more timid, but it still sounds as loud and bottom as Yes and Rush of the 70's. Compared to "Ashes are burning", it seems here that the piano and bass do not want to steal all the show: the music is rather loaded of miscellaneous instruments like harpsichord, acoustic guitar, piano, drums, which seem to sound at the same intensity level. Flute, harp, percussions and shaking tambourine contribute to create rich & sophisticated compositions. There are also very good classical arrangements, which give the baroque influence, as usual. The melodies are very catchy, so that many non proggers might like this record. Some will say that there are some folk elements. Annie's lead vocals are absolutely OUTSTANDING, as usual. We feel here that the style converges to the epic & symphonic baroque work of the next album, "Song for Scheherazade".
