RL Led Zeppelin II HOT MIX Robert Ludwig 1st U.S. pressing on Atlantic Records SD 8236
RL etched on BOTH sides of the vinyl, true first U.S. pressing.
Presswell Pressing indicators, 1841 Broadway address on labels.
Played all the way through to determine condition. beautiful sound, RARE to find in this condition, extremely strong copy!!
VINYL in VG+ condition, overall lovely condition some very light hairlines visible visually VG++, with a few spots with pops/repeating clicks for short intervals that lower the grade to VG+.
"What Is and What Should Never Be" about 4 clicks (not very noticeable) after .."so if you wake up with the sunrise"
Overall 95% is VG++ condition, rare to find in such great shape!! The reverb trail offs and sound of the room is clearly heard on this version, most are so scratched that these elements are hard to hear.
COVER in VG+ condition with slight yellowing/staining, rubbing on edges of spine and on top and bottom seams, NO SPLITS, spine fully readable (see photos), corner wear.
INNER SLEEVE in VG with initials in pen on upper right corner, yellowing/staining, seams split 3" on bottom and 1" on side.
Notes:
US 1st pressing (with the 1841 Broadway address on the labels), featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.
On some copies the Sterling Sound credit, "SS", appears in both runouts following Ludwig's "RL", and on others the "SS" appears only in the Side Two runout. The "RL" will still appear in both runouts.
Comes in a gatefold sleeve.
This sub should only be used for copies with "RL" in both runouts. Later transitional pressings which featuring "RL" on only one side and another engineer's work on the other should receive their own subs.
"PR" in label matrix denotes a Presswell pressing.
"LW" in runouts indicates Longwear Plating metal parts.
