ROBERT MITCHUM
"CALYPSO - IS LIKE SO" CAPITOL T853 - MONO - 1957

For your consideration is a rare, Near Mint, Capitol gem in superb condition from 1957 with what has to be one of the  coolest covers ever ... ROBERT MITCHUM'S "Calypso...Is Like So" ... on-screen tough guy Robert Mitchum on the  cover, glowing like a tropical sunset with a cigarette, a glass and a bottle of Caribbean rum (looking as though he is already a  bit tipsy) and a busty, dark-skinned dame with an admiring gaze ...  Robert Mitchum's sole calypso LP has become a favorite  with fans of Bachelor Pad Music, Exotica and Tiki Culture over the years and a must-have for Caribbean music aficionados  ... Capitol Records put Mitchum right in the middle of the American obsession with the tropics that was exploding in the  latter half of the 1950's as a result of Mitchum being on location in the West Indian island country's Trinidad and Tobago for  two movies in a row, and getting into the calypso music that was performed locally ... the track listing is as follows:

  • Jean And Dinah
  • From A Logical Point Of View
  • Not Me
  • What Is This Generation Coming To?
  • Tic, Tic, Tic
  • Beauty Is Only Skin Deep
  • I Learn A Merengue, Mama
  • Take Me Down To Lover's Row
  • Mama, Looka Boo Boo
  • Coconut Water
  • Matilda, Matilda
  • They Dance All Night

Condition is super-nice ... it's been lovingly cared for these past 57 years, it's amazing just how nice this copy is, it appears  to have been played only a few times, if at all ... the jacket is tight, flat, bright, glossy and vivid with no writing, stains, tears,  creases, fading or moisture damage ... all four corners are square and sharp with no "dings" ... back of the jacket is still  bright white, there is absolutely no ring-wear on either side ... it's obviously been carefully stored away from any kind of light,  moisture or dust ... the vinyl is shiny and beautiful with no spindle-wear, scratches, writing on the label or damage ... one Side  2 there is one spot that has a slight paper scuff, but that's about it, you won't be disappointed ... the original Capitol Records  inner paper sleeve is included which is still bright and crisp ... a Near Mint, collectible copy, carefully and securely packaged  with the vinyl outside the jacket to prevent any ring-wear, sandwiched between stiff cardboard in a LP mailer to insure Free  and safe shipping.
