Robert Wyatt The End of An Ear (British) CBS 64189
Stunning solo debut by the former Soft Machine pre-Matching Mole drummer/vocalist/composer Wyatt, aided and abetted by Neville Whitehead, Marc Charig, Cyril Ayers, Caravan’s David Sinclair, and the incredible altoist Elton Dean. I believe Wyatt holds the distinction of being the first British rock singer to forego an assumed American accent and sing in his own voice and accent. He was also the finest drummer in Britain; only Keith Moon and Mitch Mitchell could hold a candle to him. He might still be England’s best scat singer (there’s alot of that on this lp) and one of the cleverest and most disarmingly honest songwriters in all of pop (not so much of that talent evidenced here; this is very skewed toward the non-verbal). My highest recommendation.
This is the first British issue on the orange CBS label. Disc is VG+, cover has some general wear.
After a hiatus, during which we moved and built our Permanentrecords library/vault/watering hole, we are finally up and running as an Ebay seller again. Welcome back to all our old friends and hello to new ones. We’re going to try things a bit differently this time. We will still feature great, rare, obscure, strange and little-known vinyl, but we’ve decided on no reserves and a very low opening bid on even the choicest stuff. We’re hoping that this will keep you coming back to us for the chance at some genuine bargains and maybe even steals, as we allow each item to find its natural price. We will of course still try to maintain the same high standards of service and customer satisfaction. Good hunting and keep in mind that we do offer a discount on combined shipping!
