Description
DUKE ELLINGTON was a genius in many ways, not the least of which was coming up with irresistible dance tunes that can yank you out of your chair and make you MOVE. Here is a favorite: "ROCKIN' IN RHYTHM." Sinuous and swinging, this great piece rightfully remained in the Brunswick catalogue for the life of the label.
"TWELFTH STREET RAG" on the flip side, dates back to composer Euday L. Bowman and Dallas, Texas in 1914, but you'd never know it from this record. It's another kaleidoscopic, modern, intricate and exciting arrangement by Duke that simply will dazzle you. DUKE and BENNY PAYNE on duo pianos drum up a swell chorus.
"TRICKY SAM" NANTON (trombone), BARNEY BIGARD (clarinet), COOTIE WILLIAMS (trumpet) are featured briefly but memorably on each side. The main attraction is Ellington's unbelievable arranging talent.
This 1932 almost-original Melotone 12445 (of a 1931 Brunswick) is in splendid E condition.
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
