Roger Waters : The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking A-2U / B-2U 1st Press 1984
This first pressing is 100% stunning!  Having played every track in full (as always) I can confirm the clarity, depth, warmth and power of the audio is sensational.  In essence there is no background at all aside from a small number of barely audible statics and I cannot overstate just how immaculate the audio is.  There is only a little spindle wear so it has been played that much and it has not affected the sonic quality at all.  Of course this is an album with a number of quiet sections and yet the clarity of sound is phenomenal!  It is quite clearly a FINAL UPGRADE version and I rarely say this - it would be nigh on impossible to find a better one!
The gatefold has been so well preserved and has retained its shape and structure perfectly.  It is in lovely condition and the original black poly-lined die-cut inner is also in superb shape.  This first pressing is about as good as it gets!
On Discogs the A2U / B2U pressing is actually the first variation of the first pressing.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only detect a small number of ultra faint wispy hairlines none of which stand out of course.  It truly is a superb example of this first pressing.  The labels are so clean also with only minimal spindle wear.
Play grading
The tick tock intro on '4.30 AM (Apparently They Were Travelling Abroad)' plays with remarkable clarity, there are only a handful of barely statics and I do mean barely audible!  The instrumental section is just as impressive and the opening vocal has no background at all.  This is as good a start that you could wish for - I mean this section is quiet and yet it plays beautifully!  It continues in the same way with a clarity, depth and warmth that cannot be faulted.  Every note is so clean and precise, you miss nothing and that applies to the birdsong also!  To the end it plays with impeccable quality and I think Mint is fully deserved here.
The segue into '4.33 AM (Running Shoes)' is perfect and the powerful vocal section is just as strong and clear.  The instrumental bridge is flawless and the quieter vocal is of the same standard as is the following instrumental.  The final very quiet vocal - it's almost acapella - is 'as new'... much like everything we have heard so far!  Mint
The segue into '4.37 AM (Arabs with Knives...)' keeps up this exemplary standard with phenomenally clean audio through every section and once again I cannot emphasise just how pristine the audio is.  The quiet passages play with STUNNING clarity with not even a dust tick and the louder sections play with great power and definition.  I don't to labour a point but I cannot believe what I am hearing - not bad for a 42 year old record!  Again it has to grade as Mint
Another segue into '4.39 AM (For The First Time Today - Part 2)' and again it plays perfectly... as does the first quiet vocal.  From then on it plays with exceptional clarity once more.  Mint
'4.41 AM (Sexual Revolution)' is more upbeat during the first half and it plays with superb definition and of course perfect clarity throughout.  The following instrumental with Clapton at the helm I believe is so strong and Waters powerful end vocal is more or less perfect with only a minimal amount of inner groove distortion.  I only mention it to be 'complete' with my grading - it is very minimal and does not intrude on the audio.  Let's say Mint-
'4.47 AM (The Remains Of Our Love)' begins so quietly and again plays with sublime clarity.  It proceeds in the same way with no interference.  The female backing adds so much to this side I because Waters vocal doesn't have that melodic touch.  The instrumental end section including the long fade out plays without fault also.  A superb Mint end to the side.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The quiet intro on '4.50 AM (Go Fishing)' is close to perfect with only a handful of minor statics and Waters almost spoken opening vocal is very similar.  A couple of quiet statics and nothing intrusive - superb clarity basically.  The first verse is flawless and thereafter plays with stunning precision.  The sax section in particular could not play any better and the powerful closing section plays with great definition and... no distortion.  A Mint- version.
'4.56 AM (For The First Time Today - Part 1)' is 'as new' from start to finish with not even a solitary static sound.  Pure clean perfect audio throughout.  Mint
'4.58 AM (Dunroamin, Duncarin, Dunlivin)' is of the same standard with literally no background.  I tell it exactly as it is - if there is a minor static tick even I will mention it.  Nothing here.  Mint
The title track '5.01 AM (The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking)' is a more standard verse / chorus etc track and it plays with STUNNING quality through every vocal and instrumental section.  Can't fault and even the long fade out plays to perfection.  Mint
The waitress' spoken voice on the '5.06 AM (Every Strangers Eyes)' intro 'plays' without fault and Waters' opening vocal is the same.  To continue a theme the rest of the track plays like it has never been on a turntable before.  The powerful vocal section is superb and the quiet instrumental near the end has just one quiet static tick at the beginning.  The gentle end vocal plays with wonderful clarity.  Mint-
'5.11 AM (A Moment of Clarity)' ends the album in fine style with a... clarity we have come to expect now.  The quiet acoustic intro play beautifully and the first vocal is the same.  During the 'low key' moments you can easily hear the gentle tick tock which is a measure of the clarity on offer here and throughout the entire album.  The warmth and depth here is incredible and the 3/4 seconds of near silence is 100% perfect.  Wow what an album!  A Mint conclusion without doubt.
The Gatefold & Black Inner Sleeve
The cover is in fantastic condition with no obvious wear.  The edges and wide spine are pristine and the corners have next to no wear - there is just a tiny 'rub' by the bottom right hand corner on the back cover.  You have to look closely!  The opening edge looks untouched and the front cover is in superb shape, it is so clean.  The back cover is more or less the same with only a small number of faint abrasions but you can only see them when you hold the cover under a bright light at a certain angle.  Hardly anyone would mention this!  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and Near Mint is a fair representation of this stunning cover.
The black poly-lined die-cut inner is almost 'as new' with no side splits or tears, no marking and only very minimal creasing.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
