From my extensive Rolling Stones collection I am pleased to offer a superb example of the brilliant studio double album by THE ROLLING STONES titled “EXILE ON MAIN STREET”, Catalogue Number COC 69100. This is an ORIGINAL 1972 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the ROLLING STONES RECORDS LABEL, with a lovely 1st ISSUE SHOREWOOD PACKAGING CO LTD ‘BOX STYLE’ GATEFOLD SLEEVE. Complete with the correct 1st issue thick card picture inner sleeves and matching white paper lining inner sleeves. [The matrix numbers are A2, B2, C2, D1 and “ROLLING STONES RECORDS” and “ST-RS-722507/08/09/10” is etched in the run-outs of the 4 sides].

The un-laminated box-style gatefold sleeve is in close to EX condition (strictly graded) with only light wear and a few creases. The front and back covers are unmarked and the internal record pocket is fully intact and in excellent shape. The spine is uncrushed and solid with perfect text. Overall this is a super example of this notoriously fragile sleeve.

The top quality RSR records are visually in EX-/EX condition. They are solid and inflexible pressings which retain a lovely deep shine. There are just a few very light surface marks evident under bright light which are mostly superficial and do not cause any significant audio problems. The double-ridged Rolling Stones Records labels are unmarked with only a few short spindle traces near the centres. There is barely any wear to either spindle hole. The sound quality of these original RSR pressings is truly outstanding - very loud-cut, powerful and vibrant with wonderful driving bass. Both records play excellently throughout. There is no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all (just occasional very light surface sound which is never intrusive and only mentioned for complete accuracy). I think that it will be very difficult to find another 1st press copy of this essential blues/rock album which plays to such a high standard.

The thick card picture inner sleeves are both in unmarked EX condition with no splits or tears.

The matching white die-cut liner inner sleeves are also in unmarked EX condition. These are the correct 1st issue inner sleeves with “MADE IN ENGLAND” and “PATENT No…” text in blue print at the bottom.

Overall this is a superb 1st press copy of the Stones’ iconic tour de force which is becoming very difficult to find in such nice condition.

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
